Description

8 juvenile, unsexed aplocheilus Blockii. This is a seldom seen mop spawner. In size and habits it is similar to epiplatys dageti. Eggs are fungus resistant but fry are very small. I place free swimmers in a 5 gallon loaded with hornwort. After about a week the fry start appearing for live baby brine shrimp. After the first week or so, fry are very hardy. Adults feed on Tetramin flake, Kens' earthworm flake, frozen brine shrimp and chopped frozen bloodworm. I hand-pick eggs and water incubate them. Eggs hatch in about 10 days. I've also successfully incubated eggs in peat. They do well in my hard Lake Erie tap water between 68-72 degrees depending on the season. They also seem to do better in groups. I keep 5 fish in a 5 gallon. They are less skittish and generally produce more viable eggs. Sexing can be difficult as both males and females have green iridescence. A sure sign is to look at adult fish after feeding. The females have a pronounced belly while the males stay more slender. Shipping is $15.00 non-refundable on top of the winning bid.
