SHRIMP & DAPHNIA::
10+5 ‘cherry red’ neocaradina shrimp & 30+ ‘Russian red’ daphnia. Here is a YouTube video showing one of my tanks: Neocaradina Shrimp & Daphnia Combo
Free Item: I keep over 100 aquarium plant varieties, always have extra of something, and will include up to two small portions for free. Currently available: salvinia minima, frogbit, riccia fluitans, pearlweed, anacharis, and corkscrew val. Place the plant(s) you select in the ‘notes’ of your Paypal payment. If you don’t select a plant I don’t include any.
There is nothing special beyond a standard shrimp tank. I care for my shrimp like typical and the daphnia benefit from that without additional care. In fact, the reason I offer this combo of shrimp & daphnia is every shrimp only tank I keep, over one dozen, all contain daphnia. If you have a light on the tank, feed the shrimp, the daphnia will thrive without additional care.
This combo of shrimp & daphnia is so fascinating, I dedicated my office 75 gallon, high-tech display tank, to shrimp & daphnia. The best part of this tank, being daphnia are translucent, they glow at night if red or blue LED lights are used.
Russian Red Daphnia: This species of daphnia is one of the largest. I’ve kept this strain for many years, indoors & outdoors, compared it against many other strains, with this being the superior. Generally, I find the larger daphnia easier to keep. These are the size of a dry pea and large enough to graze for their food, making them perfect for a shrimp tank where we encourage a biofilm.
Cherry Shrimp: They are easy to keep, attractive, and so productive I frequently use them as fish food.
GUARANTEE:
If DOA I send one replacement at no cost. Please don't file a return as that usually adds additional steps for us both - just send me a picture and I will send another.
For most of the trip a package is in temperature controlled environments and safe. The most vulnerable time for a package is while it’s with your local carrier or sitting in your mailbox. Prior to ordering, watch your forecast the following week, for cool & overcast weather. Then, meet the mail carrier and take the package from them directly. If placed in your mailbox, or left in the sun, it will bake within minutes.
SET-UP:
Key to the safest startup is raising the organic level and giving that enough time to cycle completely. When you are watching/reading content on shrimp & daphnia you will see/hear references to bio-film, biome, micro-organisms, cycle, etc, which is the product of decaying & decayed organic matter. The more organic matter that is allowed to fully decompose, creates a more stable biome, and generates naturally occurring food for the shrimp & daphnia.
Steps:
Start with the standard setup: water, gravel, sponge filter, small plant, heater set no less than 65 degrees, and a light. Driftwood and snails are helpful.
Water:
A: Fish Tank: Water from a hydra free fish tank is ideal and requires little cycling time.
B: Tap: Both these organisms have a sensitivity to chemicals in treated water so age your water appropriately.
Over the course of cycling add a few doses of fish tank mulm and allow it to decay. ‘Mulm’ is the debris you vacuum from the bottom of your fish tanks. As it decays it turns into your biome.
