Description

1 young pair macrobrachium assamensis also known as the red claw shrimp. These are a larger, slow growing, long lived shrimp. Adult males will reach 5"-6" over several years. Females are considerably smaller. Males carry a large set of claws. They are harem breeders. A dominant male oversees several female shrimp. The dominant male is intolerant of rival males and will either kill or maim any in his territory(which is usually the entire aquarium). Females on the other hand are less aggressive and are not bothered by the dominant male. I keep mine in hard Lake Erie tap water. Water temp ranges from 65-72 depending on the season. I keep several pieces of pvc pipe on the bottom for shelter. Mine prefer meaty foods like pellets, flake food, live worms, brine shrimp, etc. They seem to ignore plants. The shrimp pictured are the shrimp you will receive. The male is approx 3" total length. They are approx 9 months to 12 months old and started showing sexual dimorphism approx 2 months ago(ie: larger male size and larger claw development). That stage usually coincides with males fighting. I've got a couple clawless males as evidence. Males grow back claws very quickly even though the shrimp is generally slow growing. These are an interactive shrimp. They will come to the front of the tank when they see you coming, they will anticipate feedings, they will hand feed, etc. Females will berry-up like a cherry shrimp and after about 40 days the eggs hatch into miniature versions of the adults. They are easy to keep and breed and really interesting to observe. Shipping is $15 non-refundable on top of the winning bid. This auction will ship Saturday 6/29. Payment is due at the close of auction on Friday 6/28. If payment is not received as requested, I will relist the auction.
