Description

This auction is for 10 live freshwater Mississippi Grass (ghost) Shrimp (Palaemonetes kadiakensis aka Pk shrimp). I catch these shrimp from my pond in north Louisiana (by order) so they are not starving or stressing for months beforehand. Right now over half of the ones I am catching/shipping are berried with eggs. Here they thrive in hot, stagnant, water heavily weeded with Cabomba carolina. But this area has also had surface ice and temperatures in the low teens three of the last four winters. Since mid-March more than half the shrimp I have been catching and shipping are berried, and this usually continues through May. These shrimp do really well in my planted aquariums and they have the benefit of actively controlling snail eggs and algae populations. They also will feed aggressively on simple flake food if need be. Pk Shrimp are also the only truly freshwater shrimp species that is cold hardy enough to be stocked throughout the majority of the country (native range extends up to southern Minnesota and Southern Lake Erie, although much rarer in the northern parts), yet also warm-water adapted to tropical planted aquariums (southern part of range the water temps hover around 90F during the summer months). All other grass shrimp species are either brackish water species or not sufficiently cold hardy for northern climates. These make excellent forage food and bait for game fish. On multiple occasions I have seen panfish ignoring worms, crickets, and minnows completely, and the one person fishing with grass shrimp was catching fish. I ship well insulated bags filled with water and pure oxygen via priority mail. There is no additional cost for shipping above what you bid. These shrimp are better, healthier, and hardier than the typical pet store ghost / glass shrimp.
