This auction is for 50 Live freshwater Mississippi Grass Shrimp (Palaemonetes kadiakensis aka Pk shrimp). In April I have been catching 40-60% of the shrimp berried up with eggs and these should grow in number through May. Pk Shrimp are the only truly freshwater shrimp species that is cold hardy enough to be stocked throughout the majority of the country (native range extends up to southern Minnesota), yet also warm-water adapted to tropical planted aquariums (southern part of range the water temps hover around 90F during the summer months). All other grass shrimp species are either brackish water species or not sufficiently cold hardy for northern climates. These make excellent forage food for game fish. On multiple occasions I have seen panfish ignoring worms, crickets, and minnows completely, and the one person fishing with grass shrimp was catching fish. They are also great in my planted aquariums because they will control snail populations (by eating the eggs) and forage on algae. They also feed aggressively on simple flake food. I catch these shrimp from my pond in north Louisiana (by order) so they are not starving or stressing for months beforehand. Here they thrive in hot, stagnant, water with low oxygen content where many fish and crawfish cannot. This area also saw ice and 12F, 14F, and 15F in the winters of 2014, 2015, and 2017. I ship in bags filled with water and pure oxygen via priority mail and there is no additional cost for this above what you bid. These shrimp are better and healthier than the typical pet store ghost / glass shrimp. FREE SHIPPING!
