They were first discovered in a pet store in Germany in the 1990s. It is the only known crayfish that can reproduce without a mate. All marbled crayfish are female and they will produce offsprings that are genetically identical to the parent. Baby marbled crayfish will become capable of bearing offsprings at the age of 3-6 months old.
