Marbled Cray, the CLONING Crayfish, Marmorkreb

Price is for FOUR Marmorkreb with Priority Mail Shipping Included.

These crays are 1/2" - 3/4" right now (7/26/11) and growing fast. Additional crays are available. Email if you would like larger ones, I have a couple at ~1"+ and one at ~1.5"+.

These crays are adaptable but ideal conditions seem to be hard water that's slightly alkaline and sub-tropical temps. Floor space of the tank is much more important than gallons, a 20G long would be better than a 20G high. They like rocks and wood for climbing and must have caves and hiding spots for molting and when berried. Floating plants are safe, rooted plants... not so much.

When they get bigger they will try to catch botton dwellers and fish which sleep on the bottom. A jumping guppy landed in a tank with young adults and was promptly cut in half. The only way I have been able to keep fish with them is if I put fast growing fry (guppies) with baby crays. They grow up together and the fish learn to stay away from the crays. You are warned.

They like to eat peas (thawed and peeled) and I toss all kinds of plant trimmings in for them. They also get assorted sinking pellets and whatever treats I am giving the bristlenose plecos. They will quickly learn to eat from your hand. I have an adult who comes out of her cave and goes to the glass waving her claws hoping for food when I walk in the room.

They are all female and a single cray is able to reproduce by cloning herself. When they get to about 2" they will become berried like the one below. These are a very attractive cray which isn't shy at all.

These have the potential to displace natives if they escape or are released into local waters. Irresponsibility will lead to these being on a federal banned species list and everyone will be crying because they can't get Marbled Crays anymore. Don't be the person who turns them out into a local pond, no one likes that person. Some states may have restrictions for crayfish in general or specifically Marmorkreb. Please check your local regulations before bidding.
