Description

3 young pairs of sawbwa resplendens. I've been really into the smaller, sub-tropical fish coming our of Myanmar. Sawbwa resplendens is one of them. After some trial and error I've come-up with a method to successfully tank raise these guys. In tropical temps they tend to waste away. The adult fish just can't seem to put-on and maintain any mass. At room temp(about 68-70 degrees) they thrive. I've kept them as low as 64-65 degrees with no problems. So they can handle cooler temps. I set-up a couple pairs in a bare 10 gallon with a mat of hornwort on the surface. The adults are observed spawning daily. The male will swim below and slightly aft of the female. He will mimic her every move. Finally, the female will swim up to the hornwort and deposit a single egg on the foliage. The male follows and fertilizes the egg. Eggs hatch quickly(24-48 hours). Fry are tiny. They are smaller than an eyelash and aside from their black eyes are nearly transparent. You can keep the parent fish in the breeding set-up for 2 or 3 days, remove them and let the eggs hatch. I prefer to routinely check the surface of the water. The fry will be up at the surface. I scoop them out with a small margarine container and raise them in a plastic Sterlite shoebox container. I feed the fry sparingly on 5-50 micron golden pearls and microworms. In a couple of weeks they can feed on newly hatched brine shrimp and growth is fairly rapid from there. Sex ratio is about even. I feed my adult fish Tetramin flake, frozen brine shrimp, chopped frozen bloodworms and live baby brine. I keep mine in hard Lake Erie tap water. After a 50% water change weekly, spawning activity picks-up for the next day or two. Sawbwa resplendens is a beautiful fish that I've found to be hardy in cooler temps. They are a smaller fish that can suffer if stressed by larger, more boisterous fish. But they really shine in a small species only tank. Shipping is $20 nonrefundable on top of the winning bid. It includes an insulated box and necessary heat packs to get your fish to you in excellent condition. This auction will ship Saturday 4/4 so payment, via Paypal only, is due at the close of the auction on Friday 4/3. If payment is not received as requested, I will relist the auction. If you have any additional questions, take a look at my Just Me page for details. Thanks for looking.
