Description

This auction is for ONE SINGLE Alcolapia alcalicus, but winning bidder may buy a total of up to six fish at winning bid price (winning bid price x 6). I will try my best to sex the fish for you, but will guarantee proper sexing (occasionally, "females" turn out being subdominant males). The species (Soda cichlid) is endemic to Lake Natron in Tanzania, i.e. not truly West African. I have sold only a very few batches last year since bringing them over from Europe and, to the best of my knowledge, these are the only colonies kept in the U.S. (and only a very few world-wide). I have not seen them on any retailer's list for the past several years. The fish are a few months old and around 1 in size; they come from different spawns, though, and the sizes may vary. The fish actually are fairly easy to spawn, but produce only a few eggs per spawn. At least thats the case for their parents, which started breeding at a young age. In my other auctions I typically throw in a few extra fish for free, but here you will get only the number that you pay for. PayPal (jzempleni2@unl.edu) is the preferred method of payment but I will also consider other forms of payment. The fish will be double-bagged (including pieces of polyfilter) and will be shipped in a Styrofoam box inside a card board box. There is no charge for box, bags, heat pack, and polyfilter. I reserve the right to delay shipping in case of unfavorable weather forecast. Shipping is by Fedex NEXT MORNING only. I guarantee live arrival (value of fish minus cost of shipping). Fish will be shipped from Zip 68516, in case you want to estimate shipping expenses. You will need a dedicated tank for this species because of the special water requirements (fairly warm, slightly brackish). I will provide the buyer with detailed instructions for successful keeping and breeding of these beauties. The picture shows one of the males from my breeding group at a young age; I also uploaded a video of the actual fish for sale on youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v42X0Fv1wh0). Buyer must be home to receive the fish in order to claim a refund for dead fish. A picture of the dead fish in the unopened bag must be emailed within one hour of receipt of the fish, no exceptions. Payment must be received within five days of auction close, otherwise the fish will be re-listed. I set the reserve price for this auction at $40.
