Description

Tank-raised Pseudotropheus Saulosi African Cichlids from different broods. This is a Breeding Pair (1) male and (1) female fully grown, approximately 11 months old. They are really stunning and ready to breed. They are on a diet of flakes (Sera Flora Veggie Flakes floating food) and pellets (New Life Spectrum Algae Max Herbivore Diet). These African Cichlids are great to watch as they start their mating ritual. The male will coax the female to a spot prepared by him, and as the female begins laying the eggs the male will follow her fertilizing the eggs as she puts them in her mouth. When they are done, the female's mouth is distended full of eggs. She will hold the eggs in her mouth until the fry are free swimming. It is a good idea to take the male out of the breeding tank (I use a 20 long) and allow the female to have peace and quiet, so that she can nurture the eggs. After a week or so the female will start looking for flake food that she will gently place in her mouth so that the fry can have nourishment. Please make sure the flakes are for a Herbivore diet. After the fry are released by the mother, remove the female and feed the fry crushed flakes at least three times a day. Feed only as much food as the fry can consume in two to three minutes. The Pseudotropheus Saulosi African Cichlid originates from Lake Malawi in East Africa where it lives in areas with rocky substrates. It is classified as a dwarf-Mbuna and was first described by Ad Konings in 1990. It comes from an area of the lake called Taiwan Reef, and from nowhere else. They are peaceful when kept in a large group, and they are all yellow at birth. As they grow the males turn a deep blue with black stripes, and the females remain a deep yellow. A 40 Gallon tank would be ideal for breeding these beautiful fish.
