This auction is for 4 F1 Metriaclima callainos, 2"+, unsexed. More are available at the winning price.
DESCRIPTION: Males have a soft fluorescent blue ground color, without any vertical bars, and have ~5 eggs spots on their anal fin. Females are a little lighter shade of blue, almost grayish-blue. Adult males reach lengths of 4-5 in.; females are a little smaller than males. They are principally vegetarians, needing lots of vegetable matter in their diet. This mbuna does best in a tank 55-gallons or larger. In the wild, they are found in rocky habitats at depths between 1 and 25 meters near the northwest coast of Lake Malawi, from Kande Island to Ngara and have also been found along the northeast coast between Ikombe and the Ruhuhu River. Cichlid-Forum.com
ABOUT THE COLONY: Our wild-caught breeding group came from two sources to ensure a healthy, mixed bloodline. The colony began actively spawning last fall and has produced several clutches of fry that weve grown out to 2+. These parents are producing a medium blue offspring that have a beautiful pearl-ish appearance. The males have developed nice long trailing ventral fins and a graceful extension to their dorsa as well. The picture below if of one of the wild-caughts; it was taken just before they reached sexual maturity.
