Description

6 unsexed, juvenile nanolutea. The fish you are bidding on are about 3/4". They are chunky and growing rapidly. This is a fish that has been on my radar for a while. I acquired a juvenile pair at an auction in Fall 2019. At about 1.5" they began spawning. I keep mine in hard Lake Erie tap water at 78 degrees. They are in a bare 20 gallon long with a couple tipped-over clay pots and a couple pieces of java fern. I have a half dozen wild type guppies with them as dither fish. I feed them Tetramin flake, frozen brine shrimp and frozen bloodworms. They get a 50% water change weekly. The first spawn was infertile. The second spawn just about every egg was fertilized and hatched. The pair were excellent parents. The female tended the eggs that were laid in a flower pot(see picture)and the male patrolled the perimeter. I left the fry with the adults for about 1 month. I pulled the fry because I could see the male was showing spawning coloration and the female was not. I placed a divider in with the parents to condition the female. They have since spawned again and are tending fry. The fry eat just about anything. They are heavy feeders. In normal coloration the adult fish are very nice and show hints of yellow. They have blue eyes. In spawning coloration they are bright yellow with black markings. The male is a bit larger than the female with longer fin extensions. The female has a black blotch in her dorsal fin. All adult fish I have seen show the female with the blotch in the dorsal. In comparison to a convict cichlid, I would say the nanolutea are smaller and less aggressive in nature. They are a true dwarf Central American cichlid. My understanding is that they are now a CARES fish because the area where they are found is under heavy pressure from development. These guys were worth the wait and I am very pleased to have them in my fish room. Shipping is $20 non-refundable on top of the winning bid. It includes an insulated box and necessary heat pack(s) to get the fish to you in excellent condition. This auction will ship Tuesday 3/10. So payment is due at the close of the auction on Monday 3/9. I will send an email at the close of the auction with payment instructions. If payment is not received as requested, I will relist the auction. See my Just Me page for additional details. Thanks for looking.
