Description

10 fish 1 inch in size. So you want to breed electric blue jack dempsey's but you can't find anyone selling the blue gene jacks. .... Well enough people have been asking me to sell them 100% blue gene's that I ran out of them! Oh no now what!!! Well I will let you in on a little secret ... just read and look. If the female carries the recessive gene it has purple sides once they are 3 inch body size. I am selling a mix of blue gene and not blue gene carriers. You raise them up to 3 inches and pick out the blue genes. I spawned a pair of blue genes (middle diagram in photo) and you can buy some of their fry for 1/2 the price and have a 66% chance that each one of them is blue gene. Pick up 10 of the fry and let them grow out. Pull the females out of the tank at around 3 - 4 inches in size and put them with an electric blue male jack. Out of all the females the odds are 88% that you will have at least one great pair giving you 50% electric blues and 50% blue gene breeders. Why am I doing this. Because I am seeing fewer and fewer of the electric blue jack dempsey's for sale and I don't want this fish to become one of the "We can only import them from >>>' fish. Shipping is USPS Express so email me if you want a quote on shipping, live arrival guaranteed. Payment by PayPal or POSTAL money order. If you have any questions, just email me, Richard, at Tarmack@frontiernet.net If you understand everything above then great, click the buy it now and skip the rest. If it is still unclear let me try and explain again. From a cross of Blue gene X Blue gene, each parent carries 1 recessive gene b and 1 dominate gene R. The recessive gene "b" is the electric blue coloration: Mother is down left side Father is across top. So how do you read the diagram. You are buying from the middle diagram. Each quarter of the diagram is 25%, there are 25% bb (electric blue fish that are sold to stores for big bucks) to the right of the bb there are 25% bR (regular colored jacks carrying the recessive blue gene which is what you want in a female) Down and to the left is another 25% bR (regular colored jacks carrying the recessive blue gene which is what you want in a female) and in the lower right is a RR which is just regular jacks (the reason the fish are 1/2 price because you will have to raise all the fish to pick out the blue gene females). It is easy to pick out the 25% bb because they are electric blue. The remain fry are in equal amounts bR, bR or RR, from the diagram below. It follows that 2/3 carry the recessive gene b and 1/3 do not. HERE IS THE KEY Once the fry grow up to be 3 inches + in size you can distinguish a purple skin tone in the ones that carry the blue gene. A good example of this kind of expression of a recessive trait is with angelfish. When a zebra angel is crossed with a blushing angel the stripes are broken and not solid. These fish are called clown angels. When the recessive blue gene is in a wild colored jack Dempsey the skin tone is slightly purple, especially in the females since the females have a lighter skin coloration. Take those females and place them with the electric blue male and spawn them. This pairing will give you half electric blues and half blue gene bR. It takes a little more tank space than purchasing 100% bR which are all sold out fish from me, but that is why these are half the price. When a group of 10 is purchased there is a 88% chance that you have at least 1 female blue gene out of 10 fish (2/3 raised to the 5th power because the odds are that half of them will be females so you only raise it to the 5th power not 10th). You have now finished my abbreviated 2 week class on probability and genetics. Have a great day.
