Description

This auction lot:

Species: Hyphessobrycon nigricinctus

Common name: Imperial Tetra Quantity: 5

Size of fish offered: approximately 1

Adult size they will reach: Males about 1-1/4, females about 1-1/2

Sex of fish offered: mixed

Source/pedigree: F1 and F2 mixed

More available at winning bid price: yes

Care/notes: A pretty and relatively easy to breed tetra once they reach sexual maturity at about a year. This group is young, but Im already seeing some male sparring and courting activity. They will reach sexual maturity in about 6 months. For more information, see my recent TFH article at http://www.tfhmagazine.com/details/articles/breeding-the-imperial-tetra-full-article.htm Youll get both males and females. They are currently kept in pH 6.8, total hardness 125 ppm, carbonate hardness less than 60 ppm. They are eating live blackworms, brine shrimp, daphnia, frozen bloodworms, frozen mysis, and flake foods. This beautiful new characin is sure to become a favorite. They are peaceful, undemanding, relatively easy to breed, colorful, and their color pattern is unlike any of the other characins available in the hobby. Both males and females have a wide black band running just beneath the lateral line. There is a metallic white line running just above this. The upper eye is red. The males dorsal and anal fins are edged in brilliant cardinal red; the adipose fin is solid red. Both lobes of the caudal fin are cardinal red. The males dorsal fin is often tipped in brilliant white. They spawn in a permanent setup similar to that often used for Emperor Tetras.
