Hello folks! This auction is for 7 breeding size HY-511 tetra's PLUS an extra bag of fish I haven't decided on yet. Why 7 and NOT 8 like I auctioned off last week? Cuz 1 of these NICE fish jumped out of the tank I am keeping them in cuz I didn't have the top 100% closed last night before I turned off my fish room lights. Crap like that annoys me MORE than you could ever imagine. You WILL get BOTH SEXES and these fish are almost 2 inches in diameter. I have them because they are RARE, they are NICE, and I needed some rare, nice dither fish to add to a tank with some Apistogramma eunotus in it that were giving me a hard time and were not cooperating with me regarding giving me some FRY. I now HAVE the Apisto fry I wanted so I am now going to sell some of these Tetra's. These Tetra's are ALSO breeding in this tank and if YOU want to breed them I don't think they will give you any problems at all. One tip I can give you that I feel is the single most important "secret" you could know regarding breeding tetra's like these are if you separate the sexes, condition your FEMALES for a few days and then add a couple Males to your Female tank you will almost ALWAYS get a spawn the same evening or the following morning after reintroducing them. This is very important because as soon as tetra's like these finish spawning they EAT their eggs so you really want to have everything planned out before hand and be in control of the process that way as soon as they finish spawning you can REMOVE the breeders BEFORE they eat all their eggs. Egg scatterers are one of those fish that NEED your attention if you wish to raise a nice size group of their fry. When I owned the old fish building and I turned on all the lights in the morning I would literally have thousands of egg scatterers breeding each morning but by the time I opened the doors to the public at noon ALL those eggs (hundreds of thousands of them) would be GONE and eaten up by the very fish that laid them. That's the same thing that happens in YOUR tanks at home. Believe me, if you have a pair or more of Danios or barbs in one of your community tanks THEY SPAWN regularly and within 5 or ten minutes all the eggs are eaten up and you never even realize you could easily be spawning these fish IF you set up to do it. Anyway that's why you have to do a little advance planning when you spawn egg scatterers and once you get the hang of it you would be amazed at how easy it really is to spawn those type of fish. Back to these fish. These are REAL NICE Tetras and I always thought they were a cross between a Rosy tetra and something else BUT Tanner over at Swiss Tropicals has bred them and claims they are just a color morph of Rosy tetras so these WILL have fertile eggs if you want to give them a whirl. The fish I have are constantly breeding in the tank I have them in so you WILL be good to go. You know something?
