Price is per fish with a minimum of 10 fish. More available at winning bid price.Odontocharacidium cf. aphanes aka Tetra picaflor red
These are wild caught specimens that we quarantine for 60-90 days before we start selling them. We go to great lengths to make sure they are in top condition before we even consider selling them.
Scientific Name: Odontocharacidium cf. aphanes
The actual fish is called " - cf. aphanes" because it differs in colors and black markings from "the original", Odontocharacidium aphanes. The maximum length of the fish is around 3/4" or 2 cm total length. Despite their small size the males can be very aggressive against each other. If one can keep multiples of them together they are peaceful, but in a small sized tank one should keep only one male along with one or more females. The sexes can be distinguished easily by coloration. Only the males become bright red. Depending on mood, mating males can also develope a deep black humeral spot. So far only one species of the genus Odontocharacidium is known to science, which is Odontocharacidium aphanes from the Rio Negro in Brazil. However, they have a rather dull coloration. It is not known whether these fish represent a new species or a variety of Odontocharacidium aphanes. The water parameters from there collection area were as follows: pH 5.32, conductivity 21S/cm, temperature 75F or 24C.
They are eating live baby brine shrimp, crushed flake and Sera Baby Vipagran.
Photo is of a representative fish. Price is per fish with a minimum of 10 fish. More available at winning bid price.
