Three Future Pairs of Bristlenose.

Whenever possible I try to give current photos of the exact fish which are for sale. But it takes time. Lots and lots of time. Time I would prefer to be doing something else. I would much rather knock off a few bucks, you will be saving about 25% (almost $20), than spend the next week picking fish, photographing them and setting them up in their own tank (especially that last part).

So here's the deal. You get 3 pairs of Bristlenose, yes THREE pairs. You will get one albino pair, one brown pair and one albino/brown pair. Six fish total, three males and three females. Some of the males may already be breeding age, the females will be close but it's kind of hard to tell because they don't become mature at an exact size. I have had a few breed when they were under 2", others not until they were over 2.5", usually it's between 2.25" and 2.5". What I often do is put two or more females with an eligible male and feed them all richer food, see who gets fat with eggs. The females will be a minimum of 2", most are ~2.25", but have not been living with males and have not been conditioned.

These are some albino females, you will get at least one.

Many of my brown fish have an albino parent, most have an albino grandparent. The last three brown/brown pairs I set up all produced at least a few albino fry.

My suggestion would be to put all the females with the biggest male, feed them well and do lots of waterchanges. When one female gets fat, move the other two females to live with the next biggest male and do the same thing. Take the last female and put her with the third male. What I would NOT do is put them all in one tank and let them sort it out for themselves. The males are more territorial when there are females around. Plus the females tend to all like the same male so he never gets a break (not a good thing) and the other two do nothing.

I keep my bristlenose in pairs. I have plenty of fish and could keep them in trios or even quads if I wanted. But I don't. Why? It gives the males a break. One spawn can keep a male busy for 3 weeks when they rarely leave their cave. Plus, adult females don't like competition, although they don't do much harm they do squabble. And finally, and most practical, future pairs are easier to make when they don't all have the same father. Wouldn't you rather sell unrelated fish? Of course you would.

The auction price includes the 6 fish and all packaging materials, shipping is just postage to get them all to you. They will fill the box so I cannot combine this with any other auctions, and there won't be room for extras.

I am happy to answer any questions. But there are some things I won't do... No, I can't send photos of the exact individual fish which will be shipped, that defeats the purpose of this sale. No, you can't have all albino fish. No, you can't have four females and two males. No I won't pick out the 6 biggest fish. No, I won't hold them until you get back from vacation. No, there won't be any longfins.

Bristlenose really appreciate a choice of several caves and especially males will establish territories. A diet rich in fiber including fresh veggies, such as collard greens, green beans, peas and zucchini is required. Driftwood for them to rasp on is advised and will provide additional fiber and aid digestion. A high protein diet without enough fiber can cause serious problems. These fish will mature to about 4", with extremes of 3" to 5". Plan on a minimum of 10 gallons per fish at adult size.

Ideal temps are mid 70s, do not keep these fish over 80F. Seriously, these fish are fine at 65F but struggle with temps in the 80s. I don't care what you have read saying otherwise.

If you don't see what you are looking for in my auctions, you can also buy bristlenose a la carte. Mix and match from this stocklist to get exactly what you want. I try to keep the list current but some quantities are limited. The only thing I ask is that you make a minimum purchase of $20 to avoid a handling charge.

Comprehensive care information will be provided to all buyers prior to shipment.

Term details are on my Just Me page. Please read it before bidding. A copy of these terms is also included in this auction as commented out text and can be viewed by looking at the page source. Please do not bid if you cannot pay AND accept delivery promptly. The only reason I delay shipment is my weather.

Payment is by PayPal only, no e-checks. When paying with PayPal, you must use a shipping address. If you want shipping to an Unconfirmed address, email before bidding/buying to discuss this.

Priority Mail shipping is postage for 8lbs to your zip from 01888. The fish will be individually bagged in poly bags, in a styro lined #7 box and with heatpacks as needed. Hold for Pickup is available and may be required at my discretion to destinations with extreme temperatures.

LAG for 6 fish for 3 days if >25F and <85F.

Thanks for looking and GOOD LUCK!
