Photos of the actual spawn. It was thought that Betta macrostoma, the Brunei Beauty, had been extincted decades ago. It was rediscovered in 1981, in the waterfalls in Brunei Darussalam. This rediscovery excites aquarium fish collectors, hobbyists and researchers around the world. Betta macrostoma is one of the most beautiful, the most unique wild betta, from Brunei (and Sarawak), on the island of Borneo. Unfotunately, their natural habitat is being invaded by human, the specie is likely to be endangered in the near future. Though betta macrostoma is not being endangered as in CITES definition. The specie official status is now Vulnerable, which is protected by the Sultan of Brunei. In Brunei, it's prohibited to be in possession, try to catch, or export the fish from Brunei. Violators could face corporate punishment.
