Description

TERRAPINS’ AUCTIONS AT AQUABID.COM
This is a set of dime to nickel sized individuals are of my Vermilion Koi lineage parentage. The hand -picked selection will include only individuals with 20% or less white areas (ultra-high coverage – 80% and up of non-white colors). Several hallmark features of my Koi lineages include densely packed carotenoid colors with scant to no blotchiness, jet black pigmentation, and a documented and highly predictable transitory color phase development .

These past 3 generations have seen an additional trait – the loss of up to 99% of black pigmentation in individuals sporting a juvenile color/pattern morph of “black peppering” and/or dense posterior black pigmentation (those whose posterior black pigmentation is reminiscent of half-blacks). This last one is significant since it can almost be guaranteed that Kois from me sporting this feature will lose a sizeable amount of posterior black (in some cases up to 95%). Of even greater significance, juvenile morph kois with these traits with these have so far turned out to be heterozygous Kois!!!! I authored a thread on Kois including this feature which can be located in the old Aquabid forum as well as at TAF2, TWAF and published in one of the TAS newsletters. However, the most recent update is located at http://www.angelfish.net/VBulletin/showthread.php?t=19262&highlight=homos. Though the biology of this trait is yet being studied, its characteristics appear to be a heritability, at least by virtue of increasing quantities with each passing generation. It used to be inherent only in my Vermilion lineage, it has been bred into the Tiger Orange lineage as well.

Lastly, for those unfamiliar with my Kois, they were developed some 12yrs ago using imported non-Koi bloodlines from Asia and Europe. If you’re a casual hobbyist, this won’t matter but if you breed angels, this is a key feature. That's why the majority of my Koi customer base here and elsewhere are professional breeders and hobbyists-breeders. To date, there are only 4 truly independent Koi lineages in the US; mine is one of them. If you’re a Koi enthusiast, you’ll most likely know who the other 3 are (one of these lineages may have possibly gone extinct - at least I haven’t heard about her Kois for at LEAST 5 yrs., don’t quote me on this one) and how it’s possible to make Kois….without using kois.

THANK YOU FOR VISITING AND HAPPY BIDDING!

I will accept Postal Money Orders in lieu of PayPal but it has to be PRE-ARRANGED prior to bidding NOT AFTER you win the auction. SHIPPING OPTIONS INCLUDING FEDEX, USPS, DHL OR YOUR ARRANGEMENT (ALL WITH LAG ON 24HR. CLASS OF SERVICE – SPECIFICS ON LAG DOCUMENT). If you want a qu ick quote on shipping your zip will do however, please understand that it will have an accuracy deviation of +/- 20% due to zoning type, locale access, and carrier presence. If you’d like a close to 100% accuracy I will need your full preferred shipping address (home, work or other location). If you select USPS, best contact your local PO to ensure that it supports a Guaranteed 24 Hr, Class of Service since I have found their website qualifier to be somewhat inaccurate. HAWAII Residents will need to be able to acquire an import permit from the Hawaii State Dept of Agriculture (tel# 808-586-0844). Th e paperwork will ask you to declare what you will be importing, in this case you will need to state “pterophyllum scalare sp domesticated freshwater Angelfish”. If you are unable to secure a legal permit, please do not bid on the auction.
