Live Grindal worm starter culture
A 16oz vented Container containing 1-2 inches of coco coir teeming with live Grindal worms (see image below).
Grindal worms are an excellent live food for small and medium fish. They are small annelid worms ranging in size from 5-12 mm in length (1/4 to inch).
Unlike white worms, they do well at room temperature.
They can live submerged in water for several hours. My worms are cultured in damp coco coir.
You will receive a small 5-6 ounce mature culture to use as a starter for your own cultures and/or to use as is.Culturing:
1) most use plastic shoeboxes with lids. punch 4 or more quarter inch holes in the lid and plug them with sponge or filter floss (to let some air in but keep bugs out).
2) add one to two inches of damp substrate (potting soil, peat, coco coir) to the bottom.
3) move half of the soil with worms from your starter to the new bin (add fresh soil back to the old culture to keep it happy).
4) add a few pellets of some moistened food (fish pellets, dog food, cat food, etc.) to the top and cover it with small plastic squares.
5) put the lid on it, set it on a shelf that isnt in the sun, and allow it to grow. Feed every other day. Increase the amount of food every feeding as needed - it should all be consumed in two days.
DONE!) after a few feedings you will notice the worm population increasing. When you lift the plastic to add new food many of the worms will stay stuck to the plastic - feed these to your fish. You can just swish the plastic into the tank to wash off the worms and feed the fish.
I recommend you keep at least 2 cultures always going, to provide a backup if one goes bad (flies, mold, etc).
All livestock has been bred and raised in my fish room. No fresh imports, and none of the "bonus" pests and diseases that come with fresh imports.
