AUCTION:

50+ scuds from an indoor tank. It is a temperate strain and ideally suited for indoor culturing without needing a heater. They are very easy to culture and highly productive.

This auction qualifies for a free plant portion of your choosing. Select one: salvania mininia, frogbit, riccia fluitans, or anacharis. Place the plant you select in the notes of your Paypal payment. If you dont select a plant I dont include any.

FYI: Scud cultures are more productive than daphnia. How? Daphnia require a great deal of space per individual and prone to natural up & down cycles. If you look into each of my cultures you will see a variety of daphnia populations but every one will be teeming with scuds. Daphnia get all the attention because they are so interesting however, if you are serious about consistent harvests scuds are the aquatic culture to keep.

They are very easy to culture so there is little to say about their care. Here are the important things to know:

Light: Use a light that is sufficient to grow plants and keep it on for long periods of time. The algae/biome/biofilm it fuels aids in feeding the scuds.

Temperature: Scuds are productive between 50 to 80 degrees. Unless a culture is in a cold location a heater isnt necessary.

Food: Virtually any decaying organic matter is on the menu. They enjoy decaying plant matter, fish food, soft fruits & vegetables, dead fish, squished snails, ect.

Plants: Plants are extremely helpful as decaying plant matter is food and they add surfaces scuds can cling to.

Surfaces: Add things for the scuds to live on. The more surfaces for them to cling to the larger your population. Use plants, driftwood, old sponge filters, etc.

GUARANTEE:

If DOA I send one replacement at no cost. Please don't file a return as that usually adds additional steps for us both - just message me it didnt make it and I will send another without a guilt trip.

FYI: When it comes to ensuring a live delivery the most vulnerable time for a package is while its with your local carrier or sitting in your mailbox. Its safest to meet the mail carrier and take the package from them directly. If placed in your mailbox it will be baked within minutes.

FYI:Distance isnt a factor as this ships priority mail, so the package will show up as quickly as if from most areas of the country.

For the safest outcome, watch your weather forecast for cool & overcast, for the upcoming Wednesday thru Friday. For most of the trip, during any time of the year, a package is in a temperature controlled environment and fairly safe the entire trip - until your local mail carrier places it in their truck. If its extremely cold, hot, or sunny while they are delivering the mail, risk increases significantly, and if the package is placed in your mailbox will perish within minutes after sunlight hits it.
