AUCTION:

50+ scuds from an indoor tank kept under fluorescent light. It is a temperate strain and ideally suited for indoor culturing temperatures. They are very easy to culture and highly productive. These come from tanks I also keep cherry shrimp and Russian red daphnia in so you may receive a few of them.

FYI: Scud cultures are more productive than daphnia. Why? Daphnia are reproductively productive, but scuds are also highly productive, and there are other factors to consider than just how many offspring something has. Daphnia require a great deal of space per individual and prone to natural up & down cycles. If you looked into each of my cultures you will see a variety of daphnia populations however, every one will be loaded with scuds. Daphnia get all the attention because they are so interesting, but if you are serious about your harvests scuds are it.

They are very easy to culture so there is little to say about their care. Here are the important things to know:

Light: Scuds like plants & algae so any style grow-light works. I use fluorescent(daylight spectrum).

Temperature: Scuds are hardy between 50 to 80 degrees. Because my cultures are in my garage I add heaters during winter to prevent the temperature from dropping below 65 degrees...so they remain productive enough for my needs.

Food: Virtually any decaying organic matter is on the menu. They enjoy decaying plant matter, fish food, soft fruits & vegetables, dead fish...virtually anything.

Plants: Scuds dont consume living plants but do eat the dying parts. The more plants the better.

Surfaces: Add things for the scuds to live on. Though plants arent required they are very helpful as they aid in feeding the scuds. Other good surfaces are driftwood, old sponges, rocks...virtually anything. The more surfaces for them the greater population.

GUARANTEE:

If DOA I will replace it at no cost. Please don't file a claim as that adds additional steps for us both - just let me know and I will send another without a guilt trip.

FYI: Your distance from me isn't an issue. What will risk your culture is if it's left in the elements. Please greet your mail carrier and take the package from them directly.

I don't add heat packs. These are a temperate strain so shipping temperatures are their normal temperature.
