AUCTION
100+ moina from my indoor(unheated garage) culture. They are cultured under fluorescent light @ 6500 kelvin. Shipped priority mail in a 1 liter soda bottle. The image show a bottle with daphnia for demonstraton only- this auction is for moina.

I feed the bottle/culture prior to shipping. If you conserve the water you can keep a couple dozen moina in it for a couple weeks.

HOW TO START A CULTURE

The goal here is to establish a colony in your water. Once you have moina established in your water you can breathe easier. One thing I suggest, is in addition to your main culture, you start a few tiny cultures. The reason is, if your primary doesn't take, one of the small cultures should.

Steps:

1) There are hundreds of species of freshwater moina & daphnia, and few truly know what exact species they have. Not all moina are the same. For best results start with a strain that is cultured in similar water and using similar techniques.

2) In addition to a primary culture create a couple gallon sized cultures. Gallon milk jugs with the top cut off work great. In each culture use water from a different aquarium. The goal in all this is to establish a colony in your water. If you try water from different sources, in a couple different cultures, one of them should take. Don't place all your eggs(moina) into one basket(culture).

In each culture add a handful of natural gravel and small piece of driftwood. There is no need to aerate.

3) Add a dose of food. Try aquarium mulm, banana peel, cucumber, green water, etc.

Don't overfeed. One of the most common errors in culturing indoors is overfeeding. For a one gallon culture, a teaspoon of mulm, or a banana peel the size of a stamp, is a good amount to start with. A small mix of different foods is a good practice.

Also, moina may obtain food directly from something like a piece of banana peel, but also as it decays and sheds bacteria. The food you add feeds your moina for weeks.

4) Allow your cultures to cycle for a week or two prior to adding moina. If using tap water age the water for several weeks prior to using.

5) After you receive your culture from me remove one cup of water. Pour the rest of the bottle, through a fine net, into a bowl. The moina you captured in the net add into the cup of water.

Save the water you poured into a bowl, as well as a dozen of the moina, in case you strike out on starting your new cultures. I fed the culture prior to shipping - so it will support a small colony of moina for a couple weeks.

Use the moina in the cup of water to start your cultures. Acclimate small batches to each of your cultures.

GUARANTEE
I will replace a DOA package at no cost to you. Keep in mind, the time a package is vulnerable, is when your mail carrier is bringing it to your home. If the package is left in the elements it's likely to perish. Please have somebody home that is prepared to personally greet your mail carrier.
