Ultra High Density Nannochloropsis Agar PlateShipped with free sterile swab to transfer algae to culture media.Nannochloropsis is a single celled algae with a diameter of 2-4 microns. It is used in the aquaculture industry for cultivation of copepods, rotifers, artemia, and other zooplankton. It is also used in reef aquariums for feeding SPS corals, clams, and other filter feeders that require small phytoplankton. In addition, it can be used to increase the concentration of zooplankton marine tanks while increasing the fatty acid (EPA & DHA) content of the zooplankton.Directions to start algae culture:Add approximately 50-60 mL (3 tablespoons) of culture media to agar plate and let sit for 1-2 hours.(Culture media = freshly made saltwater made with RO/DI or distilled water + f/2 fertilizer)Using included sterile swab, carefully rub cells off of agar and into solution.Transfer algae solution to 1-2 liters of culture media.(If some of the agar comes off and goes into the media - this is fine)Add light ~16-20 hours / dayHarvest or double culture volume in 7-10 daysDirections to feed filter feeders & increase zooplankton concentration in your tank:Turn off protein skimmers while feeding and for an hour after.Feed every other day 3-5mL per 10 gallons.
Start at a lower dose first and slowly increase to a higher dose over 2-3 weeks.Directions to increase fatty acid and nutritional content of newly hatched brine shrimp:Simply add enough phytoplankton to brine shrimp culture to turn the water a light green when adding brine shrimp eggs. When the brine shrimp hatch they will start to consume the nannochloropsis. After 24 hours the brine shrimp will be enriched with the nutritional profile of the phytoplankton.Your are buying 1 agar disk covered with nannochloropsis.1 agar disk equals approximately 16 oz of phytoplankton.Algae plates will last 3-6 months. Keep algae refrigerated. We ship out daily via USPS.
