This is a 10 oz, 5.5x4x1 container filled with live white worms. They are in a mixture of topsoil and sand. You can start your own culture by adding it to a larger container.
These worms are very low maintenance! Just keep in a cool, dark place and keep the soil moist. They thrive at 58 68 F.
Feeding
There are many options for feeding your worms. I usually feed them dry cat food, fish flakes and dried fish (example). You can also use bread crumbs, baby cereal and cooked rice. Protein-rich foods help them reproduce faster.
Bedding & Environment
Plain potting soil works well. Keep it moist but not too wet or anaerobic bacteria will develop. Placing shredded newspaper at the bottom of the container will help drain any excess moisture.
Use a water-tight container with a lid that has air holes. Leaving an open container will attract fungus gnats and other pests.
After a few months, refresh the medium by adding new soil. If the culture smells sour, that usually means the medium has grown too acidic and the culture may crash.
They are sensitive to light so keep the container in a dark area. They can be kept in a refrigerator or in a place that stays at room temperature. Make sure they are kept in a cool place, because they will start dying off at 80 F!
