Description

Up for auction: Grindal worms in a deli container, �8 oz� type. This should be plenty of worms to begin a culture, or even lightly begin to feed fry. I raise worms in larger plastic containers, and then subdivide into these deli containers. This photo was of some of the Grindal worms in one of the larger plastic containers. I will ship to the Continental United States only, and will charge an additional $7 which includes the cost of USPS Priority shipping. Remember that USPS Priority automatically includes tracking. You may feel free to handle delivery in any way you choose. However, my recommendation is that you have the worms held at the post office for your pickup unless you anticipate temperatures above 40 Fahrenheit or so. Grindal worms are reasonably hardy (I keep them inside but in an area with fluctuating temperatures) but please don�t plan on them surviving really low temperatures. I would be glad to mark the box �Hold At Post Office� at your request, or of course feel free to have it delivered to your mailbox if you feel that temperatures on your end are high enough. If you have not cultured Grindal worms before, please look over one of the good references online as to how to raise them. You could consider continuing to raise them in the deli container they are shipped in, but long-term it is probably better to use a larger container. I have heard references to using potting soil, compost, peat, or coir as media, as well as references to soil-less cultures on sponges. I tried but did not like soil-less culture, so now I use peat, to which I add some lime to raise the pH. To me, this mixture seems extremely easy, reasonably cheap, and fairly free of pests (which one might find if using compost, for example.) I use approximately 1 part lime to 40 parts peat�but I don�t worry about measuring exactly, and the worms seem to do quite well. This is the same mixture that the worms will be shipped in. I personally feed worms mostly with dry cat food, with occasional bread added as well; however, again the worms do not seem very picky, so feel free to read online and experiment with what you have available.
