This is for approximately 500 daphnia magna Russian Red. These are the Russian Red strain which was orginally released into the hobby by Jim Langhammer. Its a strain that has been maintained for over 40 years and I believe its reaching its 60 year. It has since adpated to home aquarist and is now more hardier and even more prolific than regular daphnia magna.

I use an adaptive photo imaging software to count the daphnia that me and my colleauges have developed in our microbiology lab to ensure that there will be at least 500 daphnia. They are extremely hard to count with the naked human eye so with this, it can be assured there will be the right amount. As such I always included extra just incase. Please keep in mind the babies and juvineles will be small and hard to count because they take up much less space than adults which may give the illusion that there is less than accounted for. But I assure you the numbers are correct.

Great for all kinds of fishes like neon tetras, apistogrammas, and Rams. These are the largest daphnia and are great for adult fishes. The offspring of these daphnia can be feed to smaller fishes. Also tTemperature is best around 70F but I have kept them up to 86F and at a minimum of 33F. Although they can withstand those temperatures, best to keep it around room temperature for best results. Easy to keep and maintain so you can have a live food source all year round.

I like too keep things simple and I feed them just yeast. I have tried green water, infusoria, and many other things, but I find that yeast is the best. It can maintain a culture for a very long time and is the most consistant food. For me its a pain to culture food for my food.

Here is a great link that explains how to get the most out of your daphnia culturehttp://www.aquaticcommunity.com/fishfood/raisingdaphnia.php
