Description

Up for auction is a 10 oz mature culture of vinegar eels. Extremely hardy and very easy to culture!
I use it for my fry especially if I am low on baby brine shrimp. Personally I feed it to all my small fry like rainbowfish or ricefish. These are absolutely great for bettas or any fish that can't take BBS yet and are too big for infusoria. Vinegar eels tend to swim to the surface and stay alive in freshwater for a while. So I think its the perfect live food for fry since it will not only swim around and entice fry, but it won't die so you can feed it once a day and have enough around where the fry can eat at their leisure. That and it won't spoil the water since they wont die in freshwater for at least a day. I can find vinegar eels still in the water for up to 3 days.
Culturing is so easy and it become a carefree culture. I find them to be extremely hardy with zero maintenance. All they need is room temperature and they don't even need lights or aeration. In fact, I just make them and toss them in the closet and forget about it. I even had a culture that I forgot for a year and it was still alive!
The culture you will be receiving has been cultured for at least 4 months and is actually harvest able. It will be shaken up from shipping but let it settle and you will see lots of worms. I recommend using all of it to make a new culture. First mix half and half of freshwater to apple cider vinegar into a container like a plastic 2 liter soda bottle. Anything with a large surface area is better like a wide mouth jar. Next cut up a few slices of apples and throw in 3 slices. After that, pour in the culture and keep it at room temperature. That's it your done! You can harvest in about 2 weeks after that but best to wait a month.
To harvest, you will need string, filter floss, and a long neck container like a beer bottle or wine bottle. Fill the bottle up to the neck and insert a small chunk of filter floss. Just enough to fill the diameter of the neck of the bottle. Before placing the filter floss, tie it to a bit of string so it will be easy to remove. Then pour in some fresh water and wait. It takes about 8-12 hours so I do it over night. After that, you will see a could of vinegar eels swimming at the top of the neck! It is ripe for harvest and you can toss it into your fry tank where it will be vinegar free!
Please check out my other auctions to save on shipping. Combine cultures possible and please send me a message to get an accurate quote. Free shipping!! I will ship first class and find that they do well even with cold temperatures. Lately it has been perfect weather for shipping, however if the temperature is freezing, I suggest priority shipping with a heat pack which is $4 more.
After purchasing this culture, please wait until I email you with my paypal address. Also in the message area, please leave a note for which auction you are paying for.
As always thanks for looking and have a good one!
