PLEASE READ ENTIRE AUCTION & TERMS BEFORE BIDDING Shipping to contiguous 48 states only, (CONUS, not AK, HI, or PR). From Johnny Fever's infamous commercial on WKRP in Cincinnati: "Remember, Red Wigglers, the Cadillac of worms. Available in fine worm shops everywhere." Brings back memories doesn't it? � Mature Breeding Red Wigglers / Eisenia Foetida � � Typical of the worms you will be receiving, quantity shown unknown, just grabbed a handful. � � This auction is for 50+ adult breeding Red Wigglers ($7). �You will ALSO receive one brick of coir ($8) to be used for bedding, calcium carbonate ($1) for buffering the pH and 4+ ounces of Purina Worm Chow ($3), a full cup which is a great supplement or may be fed exclusively. �And of course, comprehensive culture information. I only have one or two extra coir bricks left. So when those are gone, these "Everything" auctions will be gone too. I don't know when I will be getting more coir, the place I used to buy them doubled the price and I am looking for a new, more reasonably priced, supplier. So if this seems like something you want to try, do it now. � "Hey! 50 measly worms isn't going to last me very long!" And you are right if you chop them up and feed them to your fish. Besides, you will actually be getting more like 60 adult worms. Keep reading... Red Wigglers can live for YEARS if kept happy which is pretty easy. These hermaphroditic worms produce egg capsules, lots and lots of egg capsules. I have had new capsules hatch in as little as 10 days and the baby worms are suitable to feed small fish to medium fish within days. They grow quickly and you can harvest at whatever size you want. You can even collect and hatch the eggs in a small culture container, not the worm bin, feed them for a few days or more and harvesting is even easier in a confined space. By having a large amount of adults you are assuring a constant production of new worms. Note: There is no difficulty shipping adult worms. Some sellers may send mostly baby and immature worms that are ready for feeding to your fish. These will not contribute towards increasing the total number of worms for weeks or months even if left in the worm bin and not fed to your fish. "Why Red Wigglers?" Because they are hardy, the easiest to culture, do not try to wander off and reproduce readily in *captivity*. �Common dig-em-up backyard worms just don't do as well at high densities, will try to migrate to new places (and out of your worm bin) and although you can keep them alive, you simply won't get a sustainable population easily. �Red Wigglers thrive in completely different conditions, moist organic matter, not soil. �They don't eat dirt to extract a little nutrition, they eat decaying organic material and gain a lot of nutrition. �Instead of tunneling all through the bedding looking for fresh soil, they are happy to stay near the top where the food is so you don't have to do a bunch of hunting and digging in your worm bin. �And they just plain eat a LOT so they grow really quickly! "How do I keep them happy?" They need a bedding which is kept moist at all times, has a neutral to slightly acidic pH and doesn't compact excluding air. �I use coir but there are other choices. �They need darkness. �And they need food. �This can be as simple as veggie scraps from the kitchen. �Wilted lettuce leaves, those last few green beans no one wants, stale bread, cornmeal, anything organic except meat, fatty scraps or dairy products. �And if you want to make it even simpler, you can use Purina Worm Chow (no, I am not making this up). �I do feed Worm Chow as part of their diet and the increase in production is dramatic, it's not just a gimmick. �When I feed a much higher percentage of fresh veggie scraps, egg production is quite acceptable. �When I supplement their diet with Worm Chow, there are egg capsules everywhere. �Temperature should be between 60F - 80F. �If you are too warm or too cold, your worms will not be happy so it's best to keep them indoors. "WORMS IN THE HOUSE???" Yes. �The worm bin will not take up much space and you can feed and harvest easily. �A healthy worm bin will never have an unpleasant odor. �All you will smell when it is open is a faint earthy smell like soil in a forest. �If there is any unpleasant odor something is wrong, all problems are easily prevented. �You can use something as simple as a plastic tote with a tight fitting lid. �There are very fancy commercial worm bins and plans for bins you can build from wood. "Why don't I buy a pound of worms from some website for $20? It says there will be 1000!" Yes, you can buy them by the pound. �You will be getting what are called bedrun worms. �They live in compost with all sorts of other little things, some good, some not so good. �The 1000 is an estimate, usually a generous estimate, and includes the full range of sizes right down to tiny babies but usually not a lot of adult breeding worms. �Those may be tossed back to make more worms faster. �They may be harvested with something as crude as a pitchfork and there will be bedding mixed in (including all the stuff that is living with the worms). �Some vendors are better than others and even from the same source you may not get the same thing twice. �I have bought worms this way and have been satisfied to extremely disappointed. Comprehensive culture info will be provided BEFORE shipment covering everything from the worm bin (including setting up a worm bin and a creating quick & easy DIY worm bin, both with many photos), bedding, feeding, the life cycle, tips & tricks and more. Hopefully this info has given you an idea of how easy growing your own clean Red Wigglers can be and if it is right for you. �I first got Red Wigglers over a decade ago, originally just for composting, and they are really have been trouble free. �Plus fish just love them! There are entire books devoted to worm farming, properly know as vermiculture. �Just the scope of how many ways people successfully raise worms should tell you just how hardy these little guys are. For more info... Google is your friend. VERMICULTURE Additional batches of 50+ breeding size worms are available for $7.00 each. Additional Purina Worm Chow and other worm accessories are also available. Payment is by PayPal only, no e-checks. When paying with PayPal, you must include the address you wish the package sent to. Priority Mail is INCLUDED in the auction price (valued at $13). �The worms will be in a cloth bag with fresh coir for bedding and in Priority box with a nice reusable styro liner. �If your lows are significantly below freezing and you want a heatpack it may be added for additional cost. �I cannot put an ice pack in, too cold here. LAG if >35F and <80F. �I will not guarantee these over 80F. �Bad/extreme weather either here or there will delay shipment.
