It has come to our attention that another seller is talking down our auctions. In order to rebuff the misinformation being passed by this seller are adding this small section of additional information. We are not very enthusiastic on having to write this information, as we desire to sell our products on their merits only, However when another seller targets your auction with blatant misinformation an action such as this is warranted.

Myth #1, YEAST and GREENWATER will foul your culture!

Simply put, any live organism (yeast or greenwater) is LESS LIKELY to foul your culture when OVERFED. Overfeeding, which can cause any culture to foul is more likely to happen when feeding a culture with a non-living, dead, milled "powdered food" product.  Such a "powdered food" product, as it is already dead, begins to decay and rot from the first moment it is exposed to moisture. **That being said, "Powdered food", can have a place in raising Daphnids. We have found many people who do not wish to maintain a separate greenwater culture. For this reason, we do offer a "powdered food" product. We also do not claim that it is some homemade discovery of ultimate importance that will make or break your daphnia culturing experience. Just ask us for the powder in place of greenwater and we will gladly accommodate you. Our powder is high in protein and other vital nutrients, It is carefully formulated (as all Daphnia "powdered food" products are) to imitate planktonic matter.

Myth #2, YEAST and GREENWATER are highly INDIGESTIBLE!

Yeast and Greenwater, along with bacteria and other microscopic creatures are the basis of a Daphnid food chain. This is the type of food they eat in the wild that allows them to bloom into huge swarms. These animals have evolved since time immemorial to eat yeasts and other planktons (greenwater), thus they are fully suited to eat and grow very well on such a diet.

Myth #3, Shipping in a Small Flat Rate Box (SFRB) will kill them!

Ok, here is just a seller who is inexperienced and can not figure out how to keep them alive during shipping. We have shipped hundreds of these packages and they have done quite alright. As a side note, we do not always ship in a SFRB, Whenever we determine the need to use a different size box, we use a different size box. Its really simple. We only charge $4.95 for shipping because, again it's really simple, "We Can"! So don't over pay for shipping, Even the next two USPS box sizes available generally ship for about $7.00. When we need to use this size box, we cover and absorb the difference in price.

Myth #4 RED RUSSIAN DAPHNIA is a fool proof species of daphnia that is exceptionally hard to kill/crash!

Red Russian Daphnia (or Russian Reds) was the once common name in the aquarium hobby for Moina. Moina is a very small daphnid, contrary to the claims of another seller who states his Red Russian Daphnia grows very large. The point of Moina is that is is very small, the point of Daphnia is that is is much larger. We have Moina available for sale as well!

Description:

Here is what I was looking for years ago and could never find!

So now I am offering it, a complete starter kit for culturing Daphnia. Kit will include
a bag of LIVE Daphnia, a packet of LIVE yeast, and a bag of LIVE "green-water" microalgae. Daphnia is a great choice for feeding fish. It is a decently high protein food, that gut loads itself with veggies (green-water). How can that be bad for your fish? It can't! So many types fish will greedily devour these little guys. The best part is, because of their different life stages they are a great food option for both fry and adults.

You will need to provide a few things yourself, unless you really want me to sell them to you, and charge you for shipping to boot! Items you should have on hand for this kit, would be an empty 2 or 3 liter soda bottle or two, a larger vessel like a 5 gal bucket or a spare aquarium (they are fun to watch, kids love them) and a fine mesh net, but coffee filters work too. How many 2 or 3 liter bottles and how many buckets you need will depend on how many Daphnia you plan on producing, but you only need one kit to get it all going as its completely scalable and self reproducing. I use a single 5 gal bucket to provide feed my fish. I use separate 5 gal buckets to produce my culture kits to avoid the possibility of cross contamination if one of my tanks were to encounter any pests. You may want to consider an air pump, or just some extra airline hose, some splitters and control valves. If you use an air pump you won't use much pressure anyway. I would doubt you'd notice the difference if you tapped into another airline...anyway, this is all explained very simply in the "How To" guide.

We also sell,

MicroWorms
BananaWorms
Walter Worms
Moina
Fruit Flies (D. Hydei [large] and D. Melanogaster [small])
