Description

Greetings. This listing is for a quarter sized portion of Dero worms, sometimes called microfex. In addition, I include some Daphnia Magna which are to be cultured in the same container as the Dero's. This listing also includes free shipping, so the price you see is the price you pay for shipping to the continental US.

Dero worms are a small completely aquatic worm that grow to about 1.5 inches and the thickness of a human hair. They tend to clump in a colony ball that looks like a pink puff ball. Small fry will graze from the ball breaking off bits of worms that fit in their mouthes. Larger fish will tear mouthfuls from the colony. The great thing about this, is that you can not overfeed and foul the water since these worms are completely aquatic. You can dump some of these in with they fry, and they will eat until the worms are gone. That means, you can actually go away for the weekend if you want to! It also means that your fry can have full bellies all the time, which maximizes growth.

Daphnia magna are about the size of a sesame seed as adults, and drop live babies that are about the size of baby GSL brine shrimp. Even if your fry can't eat the adult daphnia, they can usually eat the babies that the adults drop. The daphnia are filter feeders which means any uneaten adults will continue to filter the water in the fry tank and drop more baby daphnia.

I include daphnia to be cultured in the same container as the worms, as they have a symbiotic relationship with the worms. The worms eat just about anything including flake, algae, sinking pellets, and detritus. The worms of course poop, which can cause algae/bacterial blooms that can cause the colony to crash. The daphnia though, filter the water keeping any of those in check and feed off the worms waste while keeping the water clean for both of them. A balanced culture does not really need frequent water changes, and I've gone months without changing the water.

Anyway, I think these are a very good fry food to have around, and have been culturing these for years now. They are really pretty simple. Always use only aged water. I use the water from a water change in a planted shrimp tank. They do not require any special light, heat, aeration, or filtration. I literally culture these in bare 1 gallon pickle jars on the floor of the fish room.

The reserve is the same price as the buy it now because I don't really think people need to overspend to get these. I suggest using the buy it now button. This listing does include free shipping so it's pretty much a flat price.

** I ship mondays and tuesdays after payment clears. Thanks for checking out my listing.
