100+ Breeding Scuds

Scuds are cool. I probably spend as much time watching my scuds as I do any tank of fish. They are always doing some weird and mysterious scud stuff. If they hatched from eggs like brine shrimp do it would be scuds that were sold as sea monkeys.

Over the years I have had 4 distinctly different kinds of scuds. Some were fairly sensitive to water conditions. Some bred slowly. Some... I dunno... I've kept them low maintenance tubbin' style and I've treated them like pet shrimp (scuds are NOT shrimp). The ones I am offering here are by far the toughest and potentially productive of the kinds I have tried. Soft acid water to hard alkaline water and they even tolerate some salt. I have had them almost down to freezing and bath water warm in the summer.

What are scuds good for?

Scuds are marginally interesting enough for a little desktop aquarium.
    Fish think they are yummy.
Scuds can be gutloaded which can make then an even more desirable conditioning food.
Watching fish chase the very erratically swimming scuds can be pretty entertaining.
I have used them to test the predatory tendencies of livebearers. Never seems to be as many fry as you think there should be? Toss in a few scuds, see what happens. I have guppies who won't even eat scuds and other guppies who turn into little barracudas.
Believe it or not, algae removal. Some species really like to eat algae and that includes some kinds which are tough to get rid like BBA. Just remove the affected item from it's tank and put in in with the scuds. Below shows a cave with brush algae. It was in with scuds for 45 minutes. Works with slow growing plants like java fern and anubias too.

These get up to about 3/8th of an inch max. You will be receiving breeding size adults, mostly 3/16" to 1/4". There will be babies caught with the adults, babies are NOT included in the count. You really want to pay for something you can barely see? I don't and you shouldn't.

Scuds can be kept in anything from jars on the windowsill to big tubs outside. Buckets, totes, tubs and tanks all work. No aeration or filtration is required although an airstone or a sponge filter is helpful. I use 5 gallon buckets with big fine pore sponge filters. Water must be treated for chlorine/chloramine and free of heavy metals but does NOT need any special aging process. I don't recommend trying to raise them in a nice planted tank, they chew moss! A few strays your fish haven't caught yet won't matter but a growing population can ruin your your nice moss.

Feeding can be as simple as throwing in some dried leaves, live plant trimmings and duckweed. I offer them a variety of prepared fish foods, veggies and live plant trimmings. I'll include samples of what I feed them. These can be raised entirely on prepared foods. They do NOT need greenwater or infusoria cultures.

Additional care, feeding and harvesting tips will be provided to auction winner. Your scuds will be shipped with the same care as I give fish, shrimp and crays. CLEAN fresh water, Kordon Breather Bag(s), styro lined box etc. You are not going to be receiving a tiny bag of murky smelly water with countless USCs (Unidentided Squirming Critters) that make you want to say "Eeewwww!".

Additional lots of 100+ are available to winning bidder.
