Select Grade Diatom powder for use in all Vortex Diatom Filters. Twelve pounds of media double-bagged in two 2-mil bags. Use one cup of powder in D-1 or Freedom Filter Models and 3 cups in the XL model. This powder can also be used in Magnum 350 Canister Filters (see instructions below) and other pressurized Diatom Aquarium Filters. Diatom powder will remove particles down to 0.80 microns including many parasites like Ick. It will clear "green water" free-floating algae within minutes depending on your tank size polishing your water so clean your fish will look like they are floating in air. Diatom filters can be used in both Saltwater and Freshwater Aquariums. Your fish deserve the same high quality water that the top breeders use. Using a diatom filter with the correct grade of Diatomaceous Earth or D.E. is a big step towards providing your fish with the premium conditions necessary for proper growth, brilliant coloration and ideal breeding conditions. I have been experimenting for over a year with different grades of diatom powder to determine which grade provides the optimum water clarity without prematurely clogging the filter bag coating. The problem with a lot of the other advertised "Aquarium Grade" ultra fine diatom powders offered on eBay is that they quickly clog with aquarium debris. You then have to recharge your filter with a new diatom powder coating, so you end up wasting a lot of time changing the powder and using a lot more powder than you would if had purchased my premium grade of diatom powder. My select grade of diatom powder allows you to run your diatom filter longer, thus filtering more water and removing more debris, while still achieving ultra-clean crystal clear water for your valuable aquarium livestock. Six pounds of diatom powder provides 30 charges in a Vortex D-1 or DFF unit and 10 charges in the XL model.

Figure 1: When priming the filter bag with our special select-grade of diatom powder, fine diatom particles attach themselves to the bag first followed by larger debris catching diatom granules. Figure 2: Competitor's ultra-fine diatom particles attach themselves to the filter bag. Figure 3: When debris and aquarium water enter the diatom filter, granules of our special select-grade powder trap larger particles of debris first while still allowing smaller particles of debris to be caught by finer diatom powder closer to the filter bag. Water is filtered to crystal-clear clarity whist resisting premature clogging of the filter bag. Figure 4: Competitor's "Aquarium Grade" diatom powder quickly clogs with aquarium debris. Filters fewer gallons of water - removes fewer amounts of debris. Requires you to recharge the filter bag more frequently, thus using more powder. Instructions for Diatom Powder use in a Magnum 350 1. Set up the Magnum with the micron cartridge without the blue filter sleeve. Fill it with water (salt or fresh). 2. Fill a pitcher (2.5 qt Rubbermaid works fine) with salt or fresh water. 3. Pour 1 cup of diatom powder into the water & mix gently. 4. Place the pitcher right next to the tank on a table or suitable flat platform. 5. Place the intake & output lines of the filter into the pitcher and turn the filter on. 6. After a minute or two, the water in the pitcher clears as the diatom powder sticks to the micron cartridge. 7. Submerse the pitcher with filter lines into the tank without losing the siphon--remove the pitcher
