Aerobic bacteria colonize the sponge providing a bacterial substrate to facilitate the nitrogen cycle. Weighted base allows for easy placement while preventing drifting. Use with an air pump or attach a powerhead to the included one inch diameter lift tube to suit your filtration needs *In addition, the Hydro-Sponge traps waste particles mechanically cleaning the water without trapping the baby fish. *The size for the #4 filter is: 4" x 4-3/4" Up to 80 gallons *Can be used in the vertical or horizontal position. *Easy to clean.
