Deluxe Fry Sponge
This is a picture of the sponge filters I have been offering now for years. I also don't know how much longer I can offer them because my secret stash has moved. The company that made these stopped years ago, and it so happened that one of my warehouses I dealt with bought around 20,000 of them.
For a long time I was probably the only one that bought them from that warehouse. (pretty cool find huh?). Well that warehouse decided to close it's doors last year and I wasn't invited to the auction (still kinda ticked over that one).
However, I do have a lead on them and I am crossing my fingers.
But I did manage to get my hands on a few that I will offer as long as I can.
What's cool about these filters?
Well, there are a couple of things
They come about as complete as they can. The top of the uplift tube has a cap with a nipple so the airline simply plugs in. Inside the uplift tube is an airline with an airstone connected to the end. This makes for easy cleaning because you can pull off the cap without taking the airline off (since they never seem to want to go back on easily). Then pull the sponge out, squeeze it and you are back in business.
The base is factory made and the sponge can be removed from it completely. No silicone is used to make these and EVERY part is removable.
The sponge is a closed cell sponge which means it has tight pores. This is good for tiny fry because they can't get trapped in the sponge. The shape of the sponge is a triangle so you can shove it tightly into a corner.
I use one of these sponges in a 20 long or smaller tank, and I can get away with two of them in a 30. These are nice sponges folks for the money.
Some helpful tips!
First off, when you first get them, you will want to hold the sponge completely under the water and squeeze it until ALL the air is out. This will allow it to sink with NO ISSUES. Otherwise you will be emailing me questions or complaining that they don't sink.
Now for a major tip!
Pay attention. Becuase the sponges are low profile and flat instead of square, you can take advantage of that. Remember under gravel filters and how good they worked.....until you had to clean them?
Well now you can simulate an under gravel filter by burying these under the gravel! Now you have just increased the surface area of the biological filtration by using the surrounding gravel. PLUS, all you will see is a clear uplift tube!
I can then take a python and cram it around the sponge in the gravel without removing the sponge. But if I ever feel like I need to, all I have to do is pull it out. How cool is that?
So let's talk price.
If you would like to buy just one of these, shipping will be an issue, but if you email me, we can try to work something out. Now if you happen to be ordering say a box of plants from me, we can always stick one in.
Otherwise here is a chart below of quantity pricing. This auction will be a buy it now for the smallest lot, so if you would like to upgrade, just use the chart to do so.
6 pack $20 ($3.33 each) 12 pack $35 ($2.91 each) 24 pack $60 ($2.50 each) 50 PLUS $2.00 each This price includes shipping to your door!
Yes I know, I am AMAZING!
Please follow your payment with an email of how many and I will give you a scheduled ship date.
