Malaysian Driftwood

There are many reasons why I like malaysian driftwood.  The biggest reason is it's weight.  It's much heavier than water so it sinks without having to use a piece of slate or something to hold it down.  That means you can position it however you want to in your tank and not how someone else decided when they smacked a piece of slate on it.  You also can change the look over and over because you have no boundaries.

Malaysian driftwood will naturally soften your water which makes it the perfect choice for some hobbyists.  It will turn you water a tea color, which believe it or not, some people like because of the natural look it creates.  But for those that don't like it, you can fix it.  The tea color comes from tannins released from the wood.  These tannins are not harmful, but do make it harder to see your fish.  The first thing to do would be soak them overnight in buckets or tubs to release the initial blow of tannins, empty the water and soak again if preferred.  Another way to remove them is by using a carbon filter or a diatom filter to remove the tannins.  But, rest assured that over time with water changes, your tanks will be crystal clear once again.

Adding driftwood to your tanks can have many benefits.  Fish can use them to hide in, hide behind, or even hide under.  Some fish will spawn on or around them, and in some cases, the simple addition of driftwood can even trigger a spawn.  If you are into plecos, then you already know they love wood.  Some prefer wood in their diet, and others may use it to aid in digestion. But one thing is for sure, if you can't see a pleco in your tank, you can almost always find in on a piece for wood.  Driftwood also provides a place for certain plant life to attach to.   Anubias, Java Ferns and Bolbitus are some of the more common ones as they are designed by nature to attach to hard surfaces such as rocks and driftwood.  Other plants like java moss, and carpet type plants have also found their way onto wood creating this awesome natural feel in your tank.

I also like to sell small pieces around 6-12".  They are much easier to ship and since you can position them anyway you like, you can stack them!  You can make you own caves, or your own structure and change it again next week.  I also like having small ones in case I want to put one in each ten gallon tank I might have with pleco fry or breeders in.  The possibilities are limitless with this stuff, so just have fun with them. I get cases of malaysian driftwood in 12 to a case.  When I sell the cases, I don't even open the boxes.  That way I can't pick out any unique or interesting treasures there are in the box, besides I want you to have them.  When someone wants less than 12, I always try to be honest and give a good mix....why because I think you might need more someday!  My wood costs the same price whether it's a "showpiece" or a simple stump. That's why when I am at a show, I let you dig through and pick out your own for one price.

I have to ship this crap UPS ground, because it's heavy.  A typical case can weigh around 20 pounds and cost 15-20 bucks to ship, but of course I include all that technical crap in the price of my auctions so you don't have to worry about it and just bid.
