Halocaridina rubra
These shrimp are extremely low maintenance and easy to care for. Aeration and filtration are not necessary so any container of a pint or more in volume that you like makes an excellent home, Perfect for the desk top, coffee table, etc. I keep some of them in an aquarium with a sponge filter but I also keep them in a wide variety of interesting small containers where they have lived for many years with out anything more than replacement of evaporated water. When kept in small containers keep no more than two individuals per pint of water. Because of there small size they cannot be kept with any fish. ʻŌpaeʻula are herbivorous so if you place their home where it gets the proper amount of light you will not need to feed or clean the container for years at a time because they will scrape clean the surfaces and eat the algae. If you want to feed them scrape an extremely small amount from an algae wafer into the bowl until algae growth in your new setup gets established.
