Horned Nerite shell are easily identified by the multiple dark horns that protrude from their shell. The shell is yellow in color with thick black swirls along the edge. They are smaller than other nerites.

Nerite snails are some of the best algae eating snails around, and their diet will include most soft film algae, from green to brown algae. They are a hardy species that are adaptable to a wide range of water parameters such as temperature of 72 – 82F and PH of 7.0 to 8.0. Avoid any sort of exposure to copper and other medications that can affect the health of the snails.

When getting Nerites, do not drop them into the water and letting them sink. Nerite have a very difficult time turning themselves over to the upright position. In most cases it’s almost impossible for them right themselves. Nerites should be placed in the tank in the upright position so they get off to a good start.

They do well settling in an established planted aquarium. In an established aquarium, water parameters are stable and have properly cycled. The live aquarium plants continuously shed and discard plant matter into the aquarium, which will promote algae growth.

Tank mates can include most invertebrates and fish appropriate for a freshwater community tank. They should not include any aggressive tank mates such as crayfish, Goldfish and cichlids.

Good example of community tank mates includes: Trumpet Snails, Ramshorn Snails, Mystery Snails, Ivory Snails and Gold Inca Snails. Bamboo Shrimp, Vampire Shrimp, Neocardinia Shrimp, Ghost Shrimp and Amano Shrimp will also work out well, as will Cory Catfish and Otocinclus Catfish.
