Description

This week's auction is for 2 young pairs of mop spawning killifish. The first is a pair of chromaphyosemion volcanum Ekondo Titi(top photo). The second is a pair of fundulopanchax gardneri Misaje(bottom photo). Both are easy to keep and breed and I maintain them in a similar manner. I set-up a breeding pair in a bare, 5 gallon aquarium. I use no heaters. My tanks run about 68-70 degrees. I place several yarn spawning mops in the aquarium to include floating and sinking mops. The fish will lay a dozen or so adhesive eggs daily, that will stick to the mops. When I want to harvest eggs, I pull the mops and hand pick eggs. I place the eggs in a margarine container containing about an inch of water from the parent tank. I then place that container in a dark place like a closet or desk drawer. The volcanum eggs hatch in about 10 days and the Misaje eggs hatch in about 20 days. As I see free swimming fry in the container, I siphon them out with a small turkey baster or pipette and into a grow-out container like a plastic shoebox. The fry will initially eat infusoria and microworms. I place a piece of hornwort in the grow-out container so that the fry can graze on infusoria on the plant. Within several days the fry will be able to eat newly hatched brine shrimp or frozen brine shrimp as well as 5-50 micron golden pearls. The fish you are bidding on are currently eating Tetramin flake, Ken's earthworm flake, frozen brine shrimp and live blackworms. The Misaje are starting to lay viable eggs. The volcanums are several weeks away from laying eggs. You will notice that with the volcanums, the viable egg percentage will increase as the fish mature. Don't be discouraged initially and be patient with them. My water is relatively hard Lake Erie water and I do not try to soften it or otherwise treat it. I will not have more volcanums up for auction for at least several weeks. I am also including some viable epiplatys dageti Monroviae eggs to hatch-out(with hatching instructions) and a microworm starter culture(with simple care instructions). I ship only on Monday and Tuesday. Shipping is $15 non-refundable, flat rate on top of the winning bid. It includes an insulated box and appropriate heat packs to get the fish to you in excellent condition. If you bid on this auction please be prepared to communicate and pay once the auction closes. Thanks for looking.
