Description

6+2= 8 gravid females. Survival is expected for 8 and guaranteed for 6. The least killifish (Heterandia formosa) are the world's smallest freshwater livebearing fish. They can store sperm and females are often incubating young. All of the females that I send you will be gravid (carrying developing embryos). She won't be conspicuously gravid because I've found that while near-to-term females can make it through the mail, they have a higher death rate than females who are further from giving birth. We also do not want them spontaneously aborting in the mail. I ship Monday or Tuesday following the order so that the fish arrive within 2 or 3 days after drop-off at the post office. I collect the fish from in and around Orleans Parish. Post-collection, I tank the fish for 4-14 days to make sure that they're healthy and energetic. These fish are inspected for fungus, torn fins, and other maladies. I condition the water, bag with breathable industrial fish bags, topping off the air supply with a spurt of compressed oxygen. The water in the bag will be part rain or standing water and part water that they have been living in at the time of bagging + stress coat. This reduces shock and conserves some beneficial flora. The fish will be in air-conditioned space when bagged, boxed, and transported directed to the post office which is also air-conditioned. I commit to bagging the fish the day that I bring them to the post office. If you have any questions or special requests please feel free to message and if you win the auction and want to tell me something in a note, please do. I accept Venmo and Googlepay but prefer paypay. The fish will ship in a box weighing 8 lbs and there will be several bags to the box. Live arrival for 6 is guaranteed I ask you for an additional $4.00 which buys extra insurance on the package. If the package is delivered on time, there should be no problems. If it is late and there are casualties, then I will promptly file a claim with USPS on your behalf. It is important that you follow the tracking closely and document the condition of the packaging as you open it with photographs. You must then share the photos and description with me. If a fish is ailing, take photos and describe the measures you are taking to nurse it. I will save our email thread as a PDF and submit it with the claim should a claim be necessary. That being said, these fish have an excellent survival rate. Killis are among the "ditch fish" here in Southeastern Louisiana, meaning they multiply and disperse in roadside ditches. Ovoviviparous reproduction is key to their success. I will include some misc. plants which will help shelter the fry. You may keep these fish in bowls, like bettas so long as they are not overcrowded. They will eat just about any fish food you give them, live or otherwise. Crumble the food well for the fry. You should expect fry within 3 weeks (max). Customers really enjoy these fish and so do I. They have unique markings and you'll be able to tell them apart if you watch them. Least killis are nonaggressive, beginner fish. The fish in the video below were collected at a boat launch in Westwego, Louisiana.
