Description

6 young gold ocellatus about 3/4" long. I harem breed my ocellatus. So I have 1 male to 3 females. Often, there will be 2 or 3 females with fry at the same time. My experience with ocellatus is that the fry are very sensitive to any change in water parameters up to about 1/2" in size. So I don't move my fry from the parent tank until they are about 3/4" long. When I say they are sensitive, I mean they often die instantly from being exposed to the air or acclimating into another aquarium. Unfortunately, the oldest brood will usually gobble-up the younger broods. So I end-up with 1 maturing brood at a time in the parent tank. A group of 20-25 juvenile ocellatus are like a gang and the female with small fry has no chance to defend against them all. I keep my breeding group in a 55 gallon, with several inches of play sand and a handful of escargot shells scattered around the tank. I use hard Lake Erie tap water at 78 degrees. Fry are not picky eaters. They'll eat crushed Tetramin flake, live baby brine and even the smaller bits of frozen brine shrimp that drifts in the water column. At 3/4" they ship very well. That said, they need to be slowly acclimated into an established tank. Placing them in an uncycled tank will likely not end well for them due to fluctuations in water chemistry. My recommendation is to set them up in their own tank, feed them, do a weekly 20% water change and leave them alone. Shipping is $20 non-refundable on top of the winning bid. This auction will ship Tuesday 9/24. Payment is due at the close of auction on 9/23. If payment is not received as requested, I will relist the auction. I also have a young breeding pair of julidochromis transcriptus Bemba that I will include if the winning bidder wants them as well. Thanks for looking.
