Cynotilapia afra (Jalo Reef)- regular 1.25 -2.25 inches

Scientific Name: Cynotilapia afra (Jalo Reef) this Cynotilapia has a very wide distribution near Jalo Reef, Malawi and a wide array of coloration. They wild they are found in the open water, near rocks, where they primarily feed on plankton. The territorial males prefer caves in the rocks for there spawning choices. These fish will appreciate some caves and rock work in the aquarium. We have fed our afra's the current All Purpose Fish Food Formula in our Florida Facility for over a year. Our cichlids are noticeably more active, grow quicker, have improved color, and we have all but eliminated bloat in even the most sensitive species, including tropheus. We have fed it to New World and African cichlids, assorted Livebearers, Discus, Loaches, Catfish, Danios, Tetras, Australian Rainbows, and virtually any fish that will eat a prepared food. Tank raised by Florida fish farmer or hobbyist MALAWI CICHLIDS SOLD ON THIS SITE ARE GENERALLY 1.25 INCHES TO 2.25 INCHES IN LENGTH AND ARE SOLD AS UNSEXED JUVENILES. DIFFERENT SIZES WILL BE DESIGNATED IN THE SIZE CHART BELOW. Small: 1 inch Regular: 1.25 -2.25 inches Medium: 2.5- 3 inches Large: 4-6 inches If you are stocking a new tank or a tank with cichlids under 3 inches you will be safe with small , and regular sizes. If you are stocking a tank that has existing cichlids that are over 3 inches you should only choose regular, or medium sizes. Most cichlids sold in pet stores are 2 -2.5 inches in size. Our fish are sold smaller because of the demand for these fish and because they ship better at smaller sizes. Our customers have accepted this due to the rarity of the fish offered on our website compared to many of the retail stores. These fish grow so fast, the initial size is less relevant to the quality of genetics and rarity of species. Our regular sized fish will measure between the width of a quarter and the width of a $.50 cent piece. The dynamics of the size is manifested when you know that a 2 inch fish will appear to be 3-4 times the mass of a 1.25 inch fish, since it is not just longer but deeper and thicker and the color is often more robust.

Q.  How are the fish  shipped?

A.  They are bagged in plastic bags and clean water with a product to control ammonia levels.  They are then boxed in a Styrofoam insulated box and heat packs or cold packs are used if weather conditions warrant.  They are then shipped via FedEx Express to the home or business address requested.

Q.  How much does shipping cost?

A.  For orders over $50 the shipping is discounted to $36.95 for FedEx Express. For orders over $325 the shipping is free. For smaller orders under $50 the rate is $44.95. FedEx express is the preferred method of shipment and has 100% warranty. Bluegrass Aquatics guarantees live arrival on all packages shipped

Q.  When will I receive my fish after placing my order?

A.  Most orders are shipped 2-5 business days after they are ordered.  Some orders that include odd balls and or saltwater fish may requires a couple of extra days to acquire and prepare fish for shipment since they are wild caught imports from a local distributor.  Most of the cichlids listed on the site are in inventory and can be shipped within one to three business days.  If you have a preferred date of arrival select that on the delivery calender provided or include that information and the order number in an email to: eddie@bluegrassaquatics.com.  We will let you know if we have to delay or reschedule for weather or product availability.

Q.   Where are you located?

A.  Bluegrass Aquatics headquarters are in Louisville Ky.   Most of the fish are shipped direct to the customers door from the Florida facility in Riverview near Tampa.

Q.   What is the guarantee on live arrival?

A.   Bluegrass Aquatics guarantees live arrival on all packages shipped. We cannot guarantee live arrival of packages that are not received on time due to carrier delay, whether it is due to weather conditions or failure to pick up or receive fish within two hours of arrival. We will, however, do our best to resolve any problems or question you may have. It is our goal to help you keep your fish alive and healthy. "Live arrival" is defined by Bluegrass Aquatics as follows: upon opening the box and inspecting your new arrivals, the fish are all swimming and appear to be in good order. In other words, they are not floating upside down dead. If you receive fish that do not meet these standards, it is the customers responsibility to take digital pictures of the fish and email them to us within two (2) hours of receiving the fish. The digital pictures of your DOA fish should be taken while the fish is in the unopened bag or with the tails clip off if discovered after opening the bag. We also encourage you to call or email us once you receive your fish to confirm their safe arrival within 2 hours, particularly if any abnormal conditions or extreme stress of the fish are involved. In the case of a DOA of a guaranteed fish, a credit will be issued. We do not refund the cash value of the fish or the cost of shipping. In the event of total loss (80% or more) of a FedEx overnight shipment, a new order will be shipped at no cost to the customer or a credit for the total order including the shipping cost will be credit to the next order.

Q.   How do I acclimate the fish?

Simply float in bag in the tank to adjust the temperature, then introduce the fish only into tank without any of the bag water.Ôªø

The Drip Method is recommended only for saltwater fish and invertebrates

Q.   What size are the fish?

A.   The size is listed under thei size tab found on the product description page of each fish.  Most of the cichlids are sold as small fish 1.25 to 2.5 inches in size.  The small size allows us to offer a wide variety of species and a low cost and economical shipping rates..  when we have large size they will be listed in the drop down menu in the product description page or listed as Medium, Large, Adult etc..
