Central American Cichlid KNOWN AS: Redhead Cichlid, Firehead Cichlid or Quetzal Cichlid ORIGIN: Belize CURRENTLY EATING: SERA Reering Granules, SERA Flake, Colbat Frozen Tropical Blend. SIZE: Babies are half inch to one inch. Males will max out at 10 -12 inches, Females 9 - 10 inches. WATER CONDITIONS: pH 6.5 to 7.5; water temperature 75 to 80 degrees F. SEXING: When young, very difficult to sex. Males will get larger and develop brighter colors as they mature. It is possible for females to develop a hump as well on their head. BREEDING: Adults spawn on flat rocks which are cleaned by them. The female lays around 1000-2000 eggs. The fry hatch in 3 days. The parents will keep them hidden under rocks or in caves, until they become free swimming a few days later. Feed baby brine shrimp as fry will graze on parent�s mucus and fins. ***I wait for eggs to lay and be fertilized and remain with parents for 1 day, then place eggs in a hatchery/nursery and feed them infusoria, spirulina, and brine shrimp.*** BEHAVIOR: When young, synspilum will be shy and tend to dart about.
