This fish grows to 8-9 inch, and develops long filaments on its dorsal fin, those filaments can expend 2 to 3 inch. This fish does not sift and forage through the substrate like a Geophagus. The males have a brighter coloration and get a little larger than the female. These are captive bred and will accept a variety of foods This fish will do well in some planted aquarium. It is not known to be a predator, but will eat small fish if the opportunity arises. We recommend keeping this fish in larger aquariums, 30 gallon and up.
