Black Phantom tetra Hyphessobrycon megalopterus
Dark and Mysterious
Native to Bolivia and western Brazil, these full-bodied tetras sport a diamond of deep black on their sides, surrounded by a greenish silver. Males will develop a very pronounced dorsal fin as they near maturity, and will show off a much deeper coloration at spawning time. In the wild, these fish inhabit acidic, slow-moving waters, and will do best in well-planted aquariums that mimic this. Like all shoaling fish, they will thrive in groups of six or more.
