Mexican Blind Cave tetra Astyanax mexicanus
An eye-less albino form of the Mexican tetra, these fish have evolved for life in the Pachn cave systems of eastern Mexico. Despite this apparent handicap, these tetra navigate just as well as their sighted peers, using their sense of smell and lateral lines. Reaching nearly 4" in length, these fish will thrive in a well-established aquaium with neutral to slighlty acidic water and plenty of room to swim. They will do best in groups of six or more with hardy tankmates that can cope with their boisterous behavior.
