Hello folks! Happy June!! This offering is for 2 LARGE 5" plus wild caught Hypancistrus sp. L004's. I am pretty sure this is a Male/Female sexed Pair and last night I took the photo's I am using below. For those of you that like to do some of your own research these have also been assigned L005, L028, L073 numbers. I don't know why they have so many L-Numbers assigned to them but I would guess it's cuz they have been collected in several different locations and perhaps there are different races or subspecies too. This is a nice beefy Pr. of fish and one fish has many more odontodes on it's body and larger odontodes on it's pectorial fins which is a good sign as far as getting a Pr. goes BUT it can also mean one fish is a more mature Male than the other fish is. I took some over head shots of them too and again there appears to be a Male and Female here to me and I think they are a pair. But mostly I think they are a Pr. cuz I spent a half hour looking through about 20 of these fish when I saw them at the importers and finally settled on these 2 fish being the best shot at giving us both sexes! These like WARMER water and they like meaty foods. I am feeding them Frozen Brine Shrimp, Frozen Bloodworms, Earthworm Sticks and they also come out and eat plain old Tetramin flake food off the bottom. HERE is Planet Catfish's page on them. I tried to find a good breeding article on these but can't find one this afternoon but they HAVE been bred several times in captivity. I'll bet these spawn very similar to Hypancistrus inspector and you can check out some excellent info including video's on those HERE and HERE They are doing excellent here in my fish room.
