Tips for a Successful Transaction

Read all the information the seller provides so you can make a smart decision. Sometimes there cannot be a TL;DR.

If you still have questions after reading everything, or have any special requests, ask before bidding. What you want may not be possible.

Check your email, including spam. It's our only means of contacting you.

Read the entire email, the last sentence may be a question. Not replying can delay shipment.

If you are having trouble receiving emails, you can see messages sent to you through the AquaBid messaging system by going HERE and entering your Username and Password.

Make sure the email and physical addresses on file with AquaBid and PayPal are up to date and correct.

Check your 10 day weather forecast. Most problems are caused by temperature extremes, both hot and cold.

The seller cannot make the package arrive on a certain day. Priority Mail doesn't have a guaranteed delivery date, it usually takes 2 or 3 days to arrive but may take longer.

Tropical Hornwort, Ceratophyllum submersum - ECONOMY VERSION

This is not the commonly available hornwort, Ceratophyllum demersum. Tropical hornwort, also known as Soft Hornwort is... softer. The form is similar but Tropical hornwort can get bigger & fluffier and does not feel like you filled your tank with branches from a spruce tree.

Usually when a tank gets 1/3+ full of hornwort, I throw up an auction. The night before it ships, I go through the whole tank and take out the very best 20 or so stems, cream of the crop, the prettiest, the bushiest, the branchiest (don't think that's a word), trim off any old growth that might shed and set them aside for the winner. I trim up the rest, throwing the best remaining growth back in then the rest goes to tanks with fish that like to munch on plants. It usually works out to ship 1/3, keep 1/3 and give 1/3 to the cichlids. With no competition for light or nutrients, the hornwort I tossed back grows insanely fast and in a few weeks that tank is ready to harvest again. I have several of these hornwort tanks.

This auction is for a box of what I would normally keep to regrow. It's very nice, green and healthy, as you can see below. That photo is what I just trimmed up, it's what's available for this auction. The only real difference between it and what I usually sell is that it's not all foot long pieces. If you are using it for fry cover there is no difference other than it will take a lot longer before it tangles and it's cheaper.

This auction is for a Regional A box packed with as much hornwort as I can safely fit in three breather bags (each filled with 16oz of water), roughly 20' - 25' linear feet. I rarely offer this economy version so don't wait.

The hornwort came from a fry drop tank which has a little duckweed and a few purple ramshorns. If you are raising liverbearers, you are probably going to want both of those anyways (especially the ramshorns). If those would bother you you can remove the DW and ram eggs yourself or buy the regular HW auction. I will remove what is obvious but won't go over it all with a fine toothed comb.

This plant should be left floating, it never grows roots and doesn't like being bunched and weighted. If left alone this plant will align itself vertically which looks really cool. On the surface it looks feathery.

Tropical Hornwort is able to take carbon directly from the water (carbonate hardness, kH) if the dissolved CO2 is depleted. So while no plant will turn down supplemental CO2, Tropical Hornwort is able to keep growing late in the day even after the other plants run out of carbon dioxide..

This plant can grow FAST, just look what a big handful of 3" stems I added to a 10G did in 12 days with only one light bulb. The whole top half of the tank becomes safe for those valuable fry!

Tropical Hornwort will grow in quite low light, it just won't be as full or grow as fast. For best results give it over 1WPG. This plant does not need fertilizer to grow but with very light ferts I get a few inches of new growth each week. INCHES.EACH.WEEK. You will have tons of this plant very quickly.

I started growing this again a couple of years ago when a friend wanted large amounts of fast growing plants for fry cover. It's a little more work than guppy grass but it really does look great. Now I am using it again for tanks with livebearers which are more predatory towards their fry. It's harder for the adults to dart through, in fact they tend to not want to swim in it at all. Tangling can be prevented by just snipping long pieces into smaller lengths every few weeks.

This beautiful plant is rare in the hobby because is fussy about how it is shipped. I can't just put it in a sandwich bag, it needs to be in water. If you don't believe me look at THIS. The fairest way for me to do this is to include the costs for the packaging materials in the auction price and you just pay the exact postage for 2 pounds as the shipping cost.

Term details are on my Just Me page which was updated October 19th, 2015. Read it before bidding.

Payment is through PayPal only (you do not need an account, just a credit card), no e-checks. When paying with PayPal, you must use a shipping address, my account is configured to only accept PayPal Confirmed Addresses and I only ship to the address given in PayPal.

Priority Mail shipping is just postage for 2 pounds from 01888, $5.32 to $9.97. You can check that cost yourself at usps.com, it will be much faster than asking me for a quote, use the online price (Regional Rate Box A), not the post office price. I ship to PO Boxes if it's a PayPal Confirmed Address.

The box will be heavily reinforced with cardboard. I am not planning to use an heatpack, icepack or styrofoam so no shipping to locations with highs ≥85F or lows ≤25F.

Local pickup can be arranged at 462 Washington St Woburn MA 01801, weekdays, late afternoon.

Shipping will be delayed if extreme weather may endanger the shipment, ...it's a hobby not an organ transplant!

LAG for 3 days if <85F and >30F.

Some of my other auctions may be combined with this for savings on shipping costs.

Thanks for looking and GOOD LUCK!
