Pick-A-Tank Plant Package
A good friend of mine gave me this idea, and I like it, in fact I'm gonna run with it. Of course, he and I have great ideas all the time, and usually spend a good hour arguing about them. Of course he thinks I never listen to him and I think he refuses to listen to me, but the truth is, we both have much respect for one another.
Here is what I'm going to do. I am going to offer you a variety of plant packages. Yeah, I know big woop, but read me out here. I realize that in the past, some people felt like they couldn't win my auctions because the packages were too big, or went too high. Well, I am going to address that, in fact, I am going to address many problems I have found in the past.
I took a look at several sizes of tanks and decided to basically create custom plant packages for each one based on size and shape. I KNOW PLANTS and I also know sizes and what looks good together based on shape, texture and even color. Now if you have the EXACT size tank of one of these auctions, and you are considering putting plants in it, I suggest you strongly consider letting me help you out. BUT I also want you to keep in mind that I gave each tank a specific amount of plants or at least a minimum amount, so maybe you are just looking for a certain number of plants at a certain size. In that case, just bid on the one that is what you are looking for, or in your budget. In fact there are no rules here and if you want to bid on a 75 gallon package and put it in 5 smaller tanks, then go on with your bad self!
SO LET'S GET STARTED
This auction is for a 55 Gallon Tank - 48 x 13 x 20. Here we go again with another auction you will complain is just like another one. But those 4 extra inches of height let's me give you some tall stuff without caring how tall. Just about everyone has a 55 gallon, but is it planted?
Since some people are anal, and I hate reading emails now because of my eyesight, I will go ahead an answer the lame questions you might ask me. The first lame question you will ask is how many plants are in this package and the answer is AT LEAST 20 plants. People also know that I reward higher bids with more expensive or more quantities, so keep that in mind. The other lame question you will ask me is what type of plants. Well, I could send you ANYTHING from stem plants, bulbs, bare root or even potted. The most common question will be if you can get all low light and the answer is NO. Now before all my low light groupies get all bent out of shape, I will be taking care of you in a different group of auctions. These particular auctions are for people that really want to experience the joy of plant keeping. HOWEVER, I am still going to keep then in the easy to moderate category, I promise I won't send you anything you need a degree or $1000 setup to enjoy.
When I was 18 years old, I managed a pet department. I was in charge of ordering all the stock. If I saw something on the list I didn't know what it was, I ordered it. In my opinion, that was the best move I ever made because not only did I learn, but I got a surprise every week. I also took the time to learn about each fish. Well, I am going to do the same thing to you here. See, I believe that a true hobbyist needs to understand how much plants complete the aquarium from helping with the water quality to even triggering spawns. So I want to give you the same joy I had when I was 18 by not letting you choose your plants so you get a surprise AND each week I am going to change the mix of plants I bring in for these groups of auctions so you can bid each week and get different plants. HOW COOL IS THAT!!
IT'S AWESOME!!
I am reserving this space here for YOU. I could be a total geek and set up each size tank in this series of auctions I'm calling PPP. But there is no greater reward for me than the feedback I get from my customers. Besides, I can't take a picture for these auctions because I am changing it up EVERY WEEK and ordering totally different plants. So here is what I want from you. I want your picture. If you win a PPP auction, and set a tank up with those plants, I want to see your picture. Send it to me in an email and tell me what size tank it is, and with your permission, I will put it in place of mine, with your name on it. I will also figure out a way to keep adding more pictures to show I am committed to keeping this deal going.
Now before I turn you loose to bid on this auction, I am going to fix some of the problems I talked about earlier. I want to tell you a few things you might want to consider or even know.
BAYLEE'S TIPS
Education
Since I could be sending you just about anything, I am going to give you some basic tips. Listen, most of you know me and know I do my best to educate every person I come in contact with, and I have even discouraged people from buying plants they had no business buying, even if I lost a sale. In the past I have tried my best to tell you about the plants you are getting so you know how to care for them, but now it's your turn to educate yourself. Since I am sending you random plants that change each week, you need to research them and learn yourself.
But I am going to help you with that as I will commit to labeling every plant I send you.
Planting
I deal with the number one plant grower in the US. This means you start with better, healthier, plants than those that might change hands several time before ending up in a LFS. However, there are things you should know and understand. Whenever plants are shipped, you should consider the roots dead or damaged, but guess what, they grow back or new ones sprout once planted. Another thing to know is the difference between immersed (growing out of water) and submerged (growing under water). Most plants grown commercially are grown immersed because they grow faster and stronger which allows them to keep up with demand and tolerate transport. IN FACT, most species of aquarium plants and basically ALL swords in nature grow immersed, but as hobbyists, we train them to grow submerged. You can always tell an immersed plant because you can hold it in your hand and it stands straight up because it is thick and strong, where as a submerged plant will fall over and is soft and supple. Most immersed plants have the potential to flower and may have broader or bigger leaves and when grown submerged will be smaller, more slender, or completely change thier shape.
The most important thing to consider when getting new plants is to have a little patience. Allow the plants to acclimate to your tank AND convert from immersed to submerged. This means you may see leaves die off, but will soon be replaced with tender submerged leaves. Simply pinch the dead leaves off to prevent mulm buildup in your tank and enjoy the trill of the transformation. Some plants or even bulbs may get confused, and go dormant, just relax and when you least expect it, it will come back and grow like a weed.
So how do you plant the various plants I send? Remember, you have the ability to learn but here are some basic tips.
Stem Plants (Bunch)
Bare Root Plants
Bulbs
Potted
The most important thing to know about bunch plants is the lead weight or twist tie is for commercial use. The worst thing you can do is plant the whole bunch tied together. You should remove the lead or twist tie and plant each stem individually about 2" apart. This allows every leaf of the stem to get light and nutrients, otherwise the bottom leaves are shaded and will die leaving you with a stem, which refers to the term "leggy".
Bare root plants are possibly the simplest straight forward plants there are. Just plant them like you would any type of plant. Make sure to allow a little space between plants and let them do their gig. Some bare root plants grow in clusters and form a mass or root ball. You can leave them alone to spread, or you can gently pull them apart and spread them around which is what I do.
There are many types of bulb plants and you should learn the differences. Some are single plants while others are more like a mother spitting babies that you can pull, which will eventually produce their own bulb. Some bulbs will do fine completely buried like Aponogetons, some must be partially buried like onion type plants, and some could care less and grow on top of the substrate like Nymphaea.
I get the most questions about potted plants and how to plant them. First off that sponge inside the plastic pot is called rock wool. You can simply pull the pot off and gently remove the rock wool from the roots before planting. You don't have to get every last bit, in fact their is a good possibility nutrients are still in it or it will aid in holding the plant in the substrate. Potted plants can also stay potted, in fact people with bare bottom tanks that want the benefit of plants, but the ease of bare bottom will often keep them in pots and will transplant them into bigger clay pots with substrate and still keep it "bare bottom" SISSIES!!
Now it's time for the dumb stuff
MY GUARANTEE (which really ain't that dumb)
I guarantee I will send you the best I have because if it's not the best it goes in the trash. I don't sell sub par plants and I don't run auctions for distressed plants or discounted plants and I don't even give them away for free. My guarantee is 100% satisfaction guaranteed. It always has been and it always will be. I don't require you to do anything other than win my auctions and send me what you bid. If you are unhappy, I want to know about it, because I want to fix it. My customers are for life.
PAYMENT
My paypal address is bayleespapa@aol.com which is also my email address. When the auction is over, JUST SEND THE MONEY, I am not going to ask for it nor do I want to. I will also take your credit card information over the phone and I will even call you on my dime if you simply email me your phone number and a good time to call. I will NOT charge any extras fees. I will ONLY charge the winning bid. I do however enjoy a good rhubarb pie from time to time if you really know how to make one.....and keep the strawberries for the SISSIES.
SHIPPING
First off, I DON'T CHARGE EXTRA FOR SHIPPING. If I do a buy it now auction, or start it at $1, the shipping is free, included or however you want to word it. This is the best way to insure I lose money and you get a good deal.
The days of me making several trips to the post office so your box can go out same day are OVER. In fact, I have spoiled some of you. I am on my schedule now. But I am worth the wait, and I have earned it. I plan on shipping 2 days a week, which will probably be Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm not messing with trying to beat the weekend, and I am sure not going to spend every day packing boxes. I like taking naps and short walks to the couch. So if you pay me by Monday, I will ship it that week. If you paypal me after Monday, I probably won't even read it until the following Monday and you will email me 3 times wanting to know why I haven't told you I recieved it. If I cannot ship your box out, I will send you an email with a lame excuse as to why. Also, if there is one email you can depend on me sending, it's confirmation that your box has shipped. I will thank you then, and you will know I must've recieved your payment.
FEEDBACK
I could give a rip about it, however I will publicly rip into the first loser that leaves me my first negative like a woman scorn, then I will get over it and wear my blemish with pride. You can leave feedback if you like, I WILL NOT ask for it. But know this, I leave feedback the day I ship your box (unless I'm goofing off), which means two things, I don't use it to hold you hostiage or as a bargaining chip and that's how CONFIDENT I am about my service.
So what are you waiting for?

I can't beleive you read all this crap.
Oh Yeah ONE MORE THING
I am making a comeback for a few reasons, but to be honest I'm still not 100%, but if this helps me out, it's a good thing.
With that said, I'M NOT TAKING SIDE DEALS right now. I am only wanting to supply my retail accounts and run some kick ass auctions. In fact I was even told to quit kissing ass and start kicking ass. So I'm gonna do it at my speed.
If you email me for a side deal for special, smaller or even single plants, here is what I will end up telling you.
Contact Jeff Arsenault @ thelawncareguys@msn.com and tell him what you want and that Baylee's sent you and he will drop what he is doing to help you. You can even bid on his auctions here on Aquabid by looking for CoryLoachFreak. <==click here stupid.
Besides, they tell me he is referred to as "The Plant Manager" here on AB now, so I am going to let him manage all my side deals.
Ok, now you can bid.
