20 + 4 Pink (Albino) Ramshorns...
who have made poor life choicesStory time! These guys grew up in a good home, a 20G long that had a lot of floating plants in it (no fish). They had good food,
an expensive education, frequent waterchanges and a big filter full of crushed coral to buffer the pH. But for some reason a few of these rascals insisted on spending all their time in the floating hornwort. Most of the year it doesn't matter, but in the summer it can cause problems. We had a really hot week in late summer and I wasn't running the lights much trying to keep the room cool. So the plants were releasing carbon dioxide, in very warm water, about 18 hours a day, See where this is going? Carbon dioxide makes the water temporarily acidic.
The snails who chose to stay in the hornwort where the water circulation was low had their shells become etched. They are perfectly healthy and the new growth is normal, very good actually, just like their wiser siblings (photo) who didn't live in the plants that hot week.
Until the shell grows some more, these will be two toned. This doesn't affect their wellbeing and, with your good care, they will look normal as adults. If there are any of the intelligent non-plant-dwelling
college educatedsiblings left I will choose those first and will be selecting the best looking ones of the etched ones.

Photo above was taken October 19th and shows most of the available snails. To see some pics from the past at different ages and in different (normal) lighting, click HERE to expand a slideshow (stays in same window). Any variations are environmental, they are genetically the same. The snails you will receive will be approximately pea sized. Some are breeding, the rest will be soon. And yes, they will breed true. More importantly, they are healthy (and happy?) and ready to be pretty janitors in your tank.
FYI, ALL Pink Ramshorns are complete albinos, there is no pink pigment, just their red blood. ALL Pink Ramshorns are brighter in warmer water and more pastel in cooler water, it varies only with how much hemoglobin is in their blood, more in warm, less in cool. ALL Pink Ramshorns have completely colorless shells, quite clear when young then gradually becoming translucent and nearly opaque when they get old. If the shell erodes or is abraded, the shell will appear frosted or even white. Anyone advertising otherwise either doesn't know what they are talking about or is purposely trying to be deceptive, you decide.
The winner will receive a comprehensive care sheet which can be downloaded and printed if desired. Briefly, no acidic water, no soft water, no big fish. They will eat soft algae if hungry but live plants only if starving. Temps up to 80F. These make good companions for guppies, nano fish and easy shrimp.
